great theory! although i think that it is also about affinity to the jutsu.. kakashi was just mimmicking zabuza to make it seem like he was copying every single move zabuza made.. i bet, because of him being better at chakra control, he could do it with less seals..
same with naruto.. he can now create shadowclones without a hand sign because he has done it countless times before..
i think it takes learning a jutsu to the extreme, a bigger chakra pool and better chakra control to cast jutsu without handsigns.

This could be the case for haku aswell. haku was gifted so a great amount of chakra control could have been the reason for one handed jutsu signs.

Very nice theory. Just to note of evidence: Madara himself stated that Hashirama is such a master at Medical Ninjutsu, he can heal with NO hand signs at all. That's another indication of better chakra control or ninjutsu master=less hands seals. That's why less hand seals were shown in recent chapters, because everyone is more proficient with their abilities.

It's also the reason why the incomplete Rasengan was very difficult to control. Because Rasengan has no HS's to form the shape, raw chakra control is needed, which is more difficult than weaving HS's. Very good find on the reason behind less hands seals being used.
