Yes, because after he had remembered what his father told him he couldnt live with the pain he had done and what a weakness it was to his pride so he did what he thought was best and died in combat

This stance I fully came up with on my own he was never put in the manga and in the show the only time he jumped was to try and cleave ichigo in half any other time he was shooting fireballs beams of fire or spinning Raika above his head
