Hardly anyone ever refers to Minato as having one of the greatest defenses in the series, but I'm going to go ahead and say it.
Basically any attack that's about to hit Minato, will just be FTG'd away from. The greatest defense isn't just tanking every hit; it's avoiding every hit. Let's pull out one of the most overused scans in the Manga.
Minato was able to dodge one of the fastest attacks in Naruto milimeters away from his face using FTG. I think it's safe to say most attacks in Naruto arn't on par with the Raikage's speed, so most will be easy to dodge for Minato.
Is this an absolute defense? Of course not.
- Instantaneous attacks beat this defense. You can't react to instantaneous.
- A smart opponent will attack every Kunai/Seal Minato has placed all at once. While difficult, it's a possible weakness.
- Catch him off guard, which is highly unlikely, but still possible. Of course, just about any defense except Gaara's has this weakness.
Another stipulation, of course, is that Minato has to have Kunais/Seals scattered around. Otherwise, obviously it wouldn't work.
I place Minato's FTG about 5 in my top defenses in Naruto, after Susano'o, Kamui, Mokuton, Gaara's Sand (no particular order).
^ Also a great point. ^
What do you guys think?

True and his S/T barrier also redirect every attacks where he wants, which makes it a really deadly counter-attack(just imagine him redirecting something as powerful as a Tailed Bomb on an opponent?)
