Itachi lacked chakra reserves, madara fought senjus for 24 hours, so...

Wrong, Itachi's sickness affected his chakra reserves.. but naturally, Itachi already showed he had abormally high chakra reserves.. the very fact that itachi

How do we know this? Kakashi stated genins normally don't have enough chakra to use a katon such as Gōkakyū no Jutsu... Sasuke learned the jutsu at 7, and it was stated that Itachi mastered it at an unknown age before that... meaning, since birth, Itachi , and most uchiha have above average chakra reserves, just as the Senju..... this would be because they are all born with exceptional amounts of Mental energy(passed down by the elder son), and mental energy is half the equation needed to create chakra

Back to op-

a few things changed mangawise would be needed for Itachi to have surpassed Madara.... His pacifistic attitude removed, his sickness cured and his Sasuke, the one thing he loved above all dying. that death would be emotional loss needed to tip him off the edge and send him down the path of hate which correlates with power for uchihas ...

i totally agree and have always thought this. If he wasn't the self-sacrificing shinobi he was, he truly could've been the strongest shinobi of all time. But he was a true hero, he tried to protect his brother and the leaf villiage in the shadows with no recognition like a true shinobi. This is why he is my favorite character in naruto. He had extreme amounts of potential

I completely agree, excellent thread, one thing though, Itachi used Tsukuyomi at 13 on Sasuke for the first time in the manga.

I say +1 for the OP. If Itachi would have had the EMS he would have been even more of a fool with his Sharingan, just look at how effeceint he is with the Magenkyo Sharingan by lasting forever using it as long as he did. He basically was the Illusionist with the Ultimate Susanoo with the unstoppable weapons.

Now just think about if Itachi had the EMS. Hmmmm he would have taken it to a whole other level. He most likely besides Naruto(only because this is who the manga is about and he is destined to be more powerful than everyone) that would basically become unstoppable with a Perfect Susanoo with a shield that blocks any jutsu and a sword that if it touches you seals you up forever while also having some chakra stars that he can throw at you with such destructive force.

His Tsukuyomi would be unstoppable. He would probably become powerful enough for you to just be in a certain distance from you and still put you into under his Genjutsu. He would be unstoppable because a person would always have to use just long range weapons which most likely won't work since Itachi would be able to read the attack and just dodge it super fast. If anyone took their Sharingan to its full potential it would be Itachi. No telling what would happen if he had the Rinnegan, OHHH my god, THATS too much!!! The guy is too smart and to intelligent in battle.

I agree. He overcame hatred, and that's a big thing for uchihas since that's their "destinies"
It's possible he would be able to surpass him in power, but i believe he already surpassed Madara in something worth even more that. c:

Well if you're using that logic, then if Naruto had his parents, developed his Kyuubi control and wind style earlier, he could have easily yada yada yada.
If you change around so much at your conclusion for one character, then you have to do the same for the other. Its all in the manga, they all died and reveled certain abilities when they did, and they have the amount of power because that's how the story played out.

Itachi would never poke Sasuke's eyes out for EMS so no,his development could only reach a certain level, even without the drawbacks of his illness.

exchange offer a win win situation would have been nice coz both sasuke and itachi would have ems and itachi could finish sasuke with ease

Its all good but now way he could last 24 hours vs senju. The only possibility is EMS grant some extra 5 in stamina.
