Watching the sasuke retrieval arc as I type this and I ve come to conclusion there not that useless (maybe jorobo is ) I was under the opinion that they were beaten by genin so they must be weak.
Seems like there only weakness was there own arrogance, and there under estimation of there opponents.
Also. Kimimaro seemed like he would ve being much stronger if wasn't riddled with disease.

We're they stronger then they portrayed or nothing special

Sick Kimi solo'd 9 Tail Enhanced Naruto clones with ease. He was fighting on par or better than Lee + Gaara.

The rest were about chuunin / low jounin level with CC2.

All the strong characters that were defeated, were plagued with "diseases" so that when they're defeated by someone inferior to them, Kishi could simply blame it on the sickness, to avoid being accused of "plot no justu"

Kishi's lousy way of getting rid of strong characters.

They're all exceptional ninja and would've become bigger threats if they had survived and trained their skills. They got matched badly and their personality flaws made them into idiots at points :')

Seeing how Shika, Choji, Kiba and Neji have a hard time against sound four while Naruto kcm only use one Rasengan and KO them and make sound four look like fodders, haha<3

I don't like using plot as an excuse, but no way in hell would they lose a 1-on-1 matchup vs Genins. Oh, and one Chuunin. But Konoha 11 is pretty epic though, so I'll blame it on that.

Strongest ninja threads in general annoy me. Cause I think most the main would equal in over strength ( minus few exception of course ). I think different one on ones. Others would die and others would live

They're all mid to high Chunin to low Jonin level, with Kimimaro being very high Jonin level, maybe even low Kage level. He was kicking Naruto's, Lee's, and Gaara's asses when he was dying of sickness.

But back to the Sound 4, they were all only 14, so they had high potential, and they were chosen by Orochimaru himself to be his bodyguards, so they're pretty capable fighters.
