What's ironic is Tobirama spoke of "Democracy" in front of Hashirama.. right. And Saying the people of the country and the village want him to be the leader. And that he can't go against that.

However, what happened to Tobirama's belief's here:

I was thinking about that yesterday. The current Kage can elect his successor. It's only if the current Kage has died in battle and didnt get a chance to elect a successor that democry steps in.

All hashirama had to do was elect Madara as his successor right after he was chosen to become hokage.

That was a different situation.Anyway Hiruzen was a shinobi who was well known in konoha and was acknowledged for his abilities and loyalty to the village. So the villagers respected tobiramas decision and made hiruzen the hokage.

Lol, it could be because Tobirama knew that people saw Hiruzen as his successor...

But the problem is he wanted Madara to be the FIRST hokage.

Just made this up huh?

I'm pretty sure there were other older people then Hiruzen for the spot of the Hokage...... lol. Especially one of the Uchiha.

Lol, it could be because Tobirama knew that people saw Hiruzen as his successor...

umm doesn't mean that the people chose him.. lol. A kid over some adults? lol.

Hiruzen wasn't like Naruto...

He spoke of democracy with Hashirama and bypassed that by directly handing the hokage title to Hiruzen... Without a group vote or anything.

Now on topic, I think sometime during Hashirama's reign the rules were fitted so the hokage could directly choose his successor (which is honestly stupid if you ask me, but whatever). I think the jounins now have to agree before it is official.

Everywhere in the manga are some huge contradictions, I don't think it was meant for that in this case.
Maybe he couldn't create that democracy or while at war it doesn't apply because it needs jonin votes and they're fighting at the time. Probably Konoha got a referendum that confirmed hiruzen and choosed his council. But we'll never known

There is no democracy in konoha. Few elders and lords choose hokage, not people.
Tobirama played democracy card on hashirama so he would stop supporting madara.

First of all we dont know if they are at war.

It could be just a mission gone wrong or etc.

Stop trying to come up with excuses defending this Hypocrite Hokage.

They seem to be in the first SWW, some time lines say that. You call him Tobirama hypocrite, ok I accept it, is your opinion. Then I look to your avatar and I see the character that is only second to Danzo in Hypocrisy... Yup, a really impartial view...

I don't think tobirama recommends an uchiha as the hokage because of his dislike towards them.About hiruzen , I think we know nothing about young hiruzen and what happened in konoha at that time.May be he was just like minato_Otherwise someone as perceptive and levelheaded as tobirama wouldn't have chosen a young shinobi rather than an experienced one.Do you believe Tobirama couldn't have thought about this???

Haha, he probably was. Kagami was the first to imply whole decoy move, i can picture tobirama saying "good idea, now do it" XD
