SPAIN!!! OMG Dressrosa is inspired in spain. It's absolutely phenomenal, the women, the food, the gaudi-like architecture. I absolutely and utterly loved this chapter. And damn, the weight attack was awesome. I had hoped it was Luffy's haki though, something like: "chill, old man, I got this". But yeah, nice.
Don't stab me please :T_T:

I wonder if the mentioning of fairies was just something utterly random or actually has a purpose?

Lol, I'm portuguese, silly wabbit.

Nothing is every random in One Piece. Even if we don't get to see actual fairies in this island (And, for all we know, the toys could come from fairies), we we eventually see them, I'm sure of it

Now that you mention it, it does seems inspired in Spain.

Just saw this on another forum.

Yeah I posted this there too, some more references, it's crazy.

Just wanted to drop this here to get a discussion started about Oda's insane genius mind:

Another proof about the similarities between Dressrosa and Spain, buildings have Gaudi style.

Oda uses spanish names too, like "restaurante" and "cafetería".

Like CCC said and like i wished (honestly, can´t believe that it happened only a few days after i wished for it)

The old guy is pretty much the OP version of Zatoichi

Well done redon

So this is Fujitora then? our new Admiral sent by Akainu to Dressrosa.....interesting:

And from the looks of things, based on the late Japanese actor Shintaro Katsu who starred as Zatoichi.

So many references, so many tributes in each and every chapter. It's almost impossible to keep up and not miss anything. I wonder if he has some kind of research department or just knows a lot and googles the rest when he has an idea XD.

Some other things were the flamengo dancers and the Pinocchio refference. Oda can draw a mermaid island one week, some mad scientist's lab the next followed by a spanish gaudi style island without having any trouble drawing it.

This chapter is the essence of One Piece, I love it.

For everybody who gave points just based on the last page should drop One Piece entirely. It clearly isn't for you. It's an adventure manga not an action manga. This chapter deserves 5/5 not a 2/5 because your boner hit the mouse button as soon as you saw the 'awesome old overpowered blind possible admiral WITH A SWOOORD!'

It deserves 5 stars just because Oda is teaching architecture, culture and history.

Put down the knife :T_T:

That stabbing of passionate women is definitely one of my most favored character 'quirks' Oda added to the manga :p

Oda is a ****ing genius. Great chapter 5/5, never thought Dressrosa would be based on Spain. And that blind guy at the end was badass.
I think we established that fact a long long time ago U_U

When I saw the :lawliet: flamenco dancers and the paella, I instantly thought of Spain, though I doubt I would have noticed all the real-life inspirations of buildings and persons.

There is still one odd one out thought: the puppets. I might be completely wrong about this as it's not like I'm an expert on Spanish culture, but I don't think it has a tradition of marionettes/puppets. Of course that's just to play in on Doflamingo's DF ability, though is it just that Oda gives more depth to the ability (as it's not the first time a person has a DF that 'coincidently' fits him quite well) or that there is a real connection in the manga?

I believe you're right. We do have a sort of puppet culture within the latin community. Though I think it's more of an italian thing, don't know why xD

Btw, that got me thinking, maybe they'll have some Pamplona bull chase, but with crazy toys instead O_O

PS: Another reference that I don't know if people notice, but the flowers are also a big reference. It came pretty close to heart, I remember in the summer, traveling through spain with my family, and the roadside is filled with sunflower plantations. We used to stop by the road, at the end of the vacations, and pick sunflower seeds, and eat them (or just throw them at each other). But yes, the south of spain in the summer used to be filled with these plantations :)

Yeah I know about the flowers...just got me thinking maybe we will see Don Quichot and Sancho Panza one way or another. It would just but be too perfect for OP :p

Good/interesting chapter of One Piece

One thing I want to say first.........lose the girl hari Franky you are losing man points xd

Toys that are a live in One Piece? Interesting One Piece has been a little wacky at times. I think the toys might be controlled by Doflamingo using his strings. There was one panel with a toy with string attached to it, but not the other toys. Doflamingo was the ruler of Dressrossa. The old man I think made that huge hole with his sword, it was hard to see in the panel, but yeah the old timer has a sword. I think the sword has something do with gravity defiantly and those dudes where getting crush by it.

5/5 great chapter once again

I don't really get why Doflamingo would be manipulating hundreds, if not thousands of puppets who just act and live like normal humans.

Well right now it's just a theory man I could be dead wrong lol, but that would make sense to why the toys are alive. We will find out more about it once the once piece manga returns next week.
