There's no way they were talking about a little dumb naruto who to that point had not even reached one tailed level yet, they were talking about jiraya...itachi even said that everyone has a weakness which is when they got a girl to keep jiraya busy to avoid fighting him

But can't itachi just use amaterasu on the three of them? the sound genjutsu also takes awhile...and also like i said it takes awhile to summon the two toads...can jiraya survive with his hands together against itachi's susano, amaterasu and so on along with kisame

True too but the two of them still did go after naruto, they didn't have to fool jiraya with a woman and find naruto alone to make themselves heard. Roughing up kakashi back at the river is enough to let themselves be known.

Unfortunately, he didn't get it completely right. Its not that they were talking about Jiraiya the whole time, but they were actually talking about Kyuubi or a fully realized Naruto Jinchuurinki in the beginning. So the part about Jiraiya = Itachi + Kisame was accurate in the translation, its just the first couple panels that were translated very wrong.

kishi hadnt yet planned how strong to make itachi that's all, there's a big discrepancy between part one and two.

in shippuden, kishi made itachi and jiraiya equals. equal score in databook, same manner and time of death, similar life and feats. itachi had just had a lot more screentime because he's more important to the story, and got shown as a free edo tensei. jiraiya's feats are largely off panel including over a hundred s-rank missions. itachi has the edge in genjutsu and ms, jiraiya has the edge in bunshin and sm, itachi is smarter, jiraiya is more versatile in tactics and strategy. it could go either way.
