It's true Ace's progression is a head of Luffy's but nonetheless if he is to return then Luffy's training was all null and void since he only trained because he never wanted to lose anyone again.

Exactly what it says. Either Kishi has a zombie fetish, or death means almost nothing in the Naruto world. However, in OP, dead means dead. I'd like it to stay that way, we don't need what's done in Naruto to be done in OP too. There're two separate series for a reason.
