At some point I decided to just ignore Kishi's plotholes and just enjoy the story, so this fact actually skipped my attention. So it means warring clans were living so close to each other that their inhabitans could bump into each other on a walk? Or they let their kids wander so far away from home?
I think Kishi just pulled this "meeting" in the last moment to have Madara and Hashirama share a relationship like Naruto and Sasuke. Cause the word of God, pardon, Kishi dictates that all the enemies were buddies as children.
