If people wanted the actual version, they have the ability to go read the Illiad at any point they want. If they're going to watch a movie called Troy, which is not the Illiad, they don't have to watch something that's exactly word for word accurate. You're making far too big a deal of the differences between the two. It really wasn't played down as much as you think. Pride was still the greatest hubris of Achilles. Agememnon's ambition and vanity still brought about his demise.
The messages in the movie were virtually the same, and as such, your complaints don't really hold up as valid.
