It's not hard to work out, nagato only had enough chakra to revive those who he had just killed, with that he was already going to die he couldn't of gone any further where as obito doesn't have to waste his chakra reviving thousands of people he only needs to revive madara

So I was answering a question about the Rinnegan and I just realized that Madara in the manga asked Tobi "why wasn't I summoned back with the Rinne Tensei". Didn't Nagato say that there was "still time" to revive the one's he had killed in the village? So if Nagato only had enough time to revive the one's he killed in the village and not being able to revive anyone outside that amount of time, how could obito revive madara. Do different people with the rinnegan have different limitations or what. Let me know what you think.
The answer is the duration of death and the chakra required to bring them back with Rinne Tensei, Nagato was almost depleted of chakra but since the fatalities were just recent, his remaining chakra was sufficient to revive them, Madara on the other hand has been dead for decades therefore the chakra needed to revive him would prove fatal to the caster of Rinne Tensei even at robust health, causing his demise.

but he wasn't going to die, naruto was going to kill him, and nagato chose to use his last remaining chakra to save the one's he killed in the village. I see what your saying though about obito only needing to revive one instead of thousands though

Nagato said "There's still time" because he was dying, but he had enough time left alive to use the jutsu.
This :y

but if what you said about nagato was true, than why didnt he just wait until he regained chakra, or why didnt he revive yahiko when he had the chance

My guess is that Rinne Tensei can only bring back the people who are between the afterlife and the normal life, the transition state. For example Kakashi met his father Sakumo in the transition state and because he stayed there he could be brought back. I think that madara waited for many years in the transition state because that was the only way to be brought back.

The answer is because the chakra needed to revive someone with Rinne Tensei is directly proportional to the duration of the person's death, now, given that there are numerous villagers who died, the chakra demand would not have been taxing as reviving dead villagers from long ago, Madara has been dead for decades, hence the chakra needed to use RT on him would be fatal to the caster.

Because if he took time to recuperate then the longer the souls stay in the afterlife, by the time he has regained his strength, the amount of chakra needed would be greater than before since the dead had spent a considerable time in the afterlife, and given the number of souls he had to revive factored by the prolonged duration of their demise, it would most certainly have killed Nagato and his full chakra may not be able to revive those many it is therefore a calculated act in his part to revive them when the fatalities were just recent to ensure 100% success, and he was not able to revive Yahiko before because he had not awaken the Rinne Tensei power during the early stages when he just acquired the Rinnegan, and even when he did awaken that power he still wouldn't use it on Yahiko, since his conversion to the side of good was just before his death, it would be impractical for him to revive Yahiko at the cost of his life when he was adamant in pursuing Akatsuki's goal.

Because he would not waste his life to revive him when who was so persistent in the realization of Akatsuki's goal, his goal takes precedence over reviving a long dead comrade. He only had a deathbed conversion afterall.
