I've seen some people bring up the possibility that at first Kishi was going to make Tobi Madara and changed his mind later, making him Obito. I don't think this is the case and I wanted to try to bring up some evidence against it.
First and foremost, and actually the inspiration of this thread, was the original analysis of Tobi's ability:
As you can see, Sakura's analysis is identical to Kakashi's analysis in recent chapters. She explains he actually 'removes' a part of his body from existence in order to make it seem like attacks pass through him. The only piece of evidence added to the explanation in recent chapters was the fact that we got a visual example, showing the actual body part in question appearing in the alternate dimension. So essentially, this manga page proves that Kishi had the technique figured out in its entirety as far back as chapter 395, supporting the idea that Kishi always intended to make Tobi's eye technique the counterpart to Kakashi's and thus, planning to make Tobi Obito.
Some people have also claimed that Tobi knew so much about Madara that it was hard to believe he was anyone other than Madara, myself included. Essentially the argument was that, at that time, Kishi actually planned to make Tobi Madara considering how much information he was having him spew out. But Kishi has made it clear that when it came to all matters relevant to Madara or the history of the leaf, that Obito got all the necessary information either from Madara himself, or from Zetsu later on. So the problem of knowledge really doesn't pose a threat to the plot.
Not only that, but Madara's life had several stages of existence, which includes his symbolic death, his real death and Tobi's act from the moment Madara died. By that I mean that not only did Madara die once for real, but he also had a symbolic death. That being when he first clung himself to the Mazou in order to survive. We know that he would have died without it, so in reality he was a walking zombie for all that time he was hooked up to it. Not only that, but Tobi essentially carried on his will even after his death, creating a new existence of Madara even after his passing. So in reality, Kishi was driving home the whole time that Madara was still alive in a sense, just that he was alive in Obito and that his life force was so strong, that he was able to transcend even death, both figuratively and literally.
What I'm getting at here is that Kishi purposely laid these aspects of his plot on extra thick in order to cement the role that Madara played in everything. It wasn't the fact that he planned on making Tobi Madara from the beginning and changed it, it was the fact that he always intended to make Madara a key player in the finale of the story and felt that this was the best way to accomplish that.
Now obviously there are countless other things I could try to bring up, like Kakashi Gaiden and the fact that Obtio's image was spammed very early on in the manga that can prove this fact, but I felt that these pieces of evidence were really worth noting. Let me know what you guys feel about this topic in general. I believe most people will tell you that Kishi planned to make Tobi Obito from the start, but I think there were some lingering questions about certain instances in the manga (one example being Tobi stating "do you know how long I waited for this moment??!!!" when in actuality it more or less a year from him) and the fact that Tobi knew so much in general.
Thoughts, comments, questions, concerns?
