If Mizukage hadn't given away his secrets to Gaara, I doubt they would have defeated him before he had blasted everyone to bits with his steam explosions. His Clam mirage is almost impossible to see through. Gaara found it with his sand, but he only knew of it's existence because the Mizukage told him.

I guess you'd be able to spot it with a Sharingan. Any non Uchiha wouldn't be able to see through the Genjutsu and would be too busy running away from the Imp's deadly infinite explosions.

Gaara was also the only one suited to stop the Imp, and that was only because his Father had been summoned as an Edo and had left behind his signature Gold Dust, which was Gaara's key weapon to stop the Imp.
