Just an incredibly short story. My guess is that it will have just two or three short chapters. Originally planned it as a one shot but it just kinda evolved xd

The silence of Naruto's apartment was broken by the low, creaking sound of the front door as it opened. Quiet footsteps carried the blonde into his small domain and he shut the door behind him. He was alone, as always. After a day of relentless D-rank missions with the other members of Team 7, the blonde 12 year old was visibly fatigued. He dragged his feet forward, manoeuvring through the empty ramen cartons and articles of clothing that were scattered haphazardly on the floor, until he reached his bed and laid on it.

Eyes slowly dimming and muscles already responding to the alluring call of slumber, a thought flashed through his mind. “The Old Man's coming to inspect my room tomorrow. Better clean up now.” he mused. The blonde then tried to will himself awake but fatigue triumphed over intent as his tired body refused to obey. “I'm so tired. Better have a clone do it.” He managed to bring both hands together to form a hand seal and a clone appeared beside him in a puff of smoke, also sprawled across the bed.

“Clean up.” he ordered his doppleganger, his speech slurry due to his being half-asleep.

“You do it.” the copy retorted languidly.

“I created you to clean up this place.” said Naruto, anger now present in his tired voice.

“I'm tired too.”

Both fell silent, neither having the energy nor the words to argue. The silence lingered and Naruto as well as his clone both found their eyes dimming. A few seconds later, both original and copy had already drifted to sleep.

The whistle of the wind echoed softly and pleasantly in the blonde's ears but was steadily growing louder. Naruto felt weightless, like he was falling freely through the clouds without a care in the world. He felt his clothes only lightly touching his body, as if they were being swept in every direction by violent winds. The boy assumed he was having a very pleasant dream, until his eyes snapped open, revealing his cerulean pupils.

Naruto squinted, his eyes getting adjusted to the bright light that was sprayed on him. He found the source of the illumination to be none other than a shining yellow sphere floating above him. “Why is the sun in my room? Where's the ceiling?” he thought.

The blonde shifted his gaze to his right, expecting to see the shelf that stood across his bed and carried the frame of his official Team 7 photograph, but he only observed a blue expanse of nothingness “Why is everywhere blue?” It wasn't until he saw the slow flight of a bird across the blue space that he realised just where he was. “I'm falling! I'm falling from the sky! Why am I falling from the sky?!” screamed Naruto in the loud, high-pitched voice for which he was well known.

He looked downwards and saw a large expanse of green which he assumed was forest. Naruto observed, eyes wide in raw fear, that the green stretch of forest below him was steadily growing larger which meant he was getting dangerously close to it. His hands quickly came together to form a hand seal. “Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!” he cried out just as a clone appeared out of thin air directly below him. He placed on foot on the back of the doppleganger and leaped upwards, pushing himself higher. As the momentum of his jump gave out, he found himself falling once more but at a slower pace than his initial descent. It was slow enough for him to somersault and land safely and gracefully on a tree branch in the forest. The sound of his feet on the branch broke the silence of the dense woodland.

“Phew, I made it. Now to figure out what the hell is going on. Where am I?” he wondered as he examined the forest. It somehow looked...familiar. A faint rustle of leaves was heard just as an individual appeared behind him in a bright flash of light, almost shocking the blonde child out of his skin. The stranger grabbed him and vanished from the scene along with Naruto.

Naruto felt himself being pulled with great force at an astonishing level of speed for about a second and then the feeling dissipated. The stranger then dropped him on the floor. He landed on his feet with a soft thud and felt the floor creak under his weight. “Wooden floor?” he examined. “But we were in a...”

“I brought you from the forest.” a voice cut him off, it belonged to the stranger who had grabbed him earlier.

Naruto's eyes widened and sunk as his heart began to pound erratically inside his chest. “Who...who are you?” the boy asked, fearing to even turn around and look upon the mysterious individual.

The man simply walked past Naruto, his footsteps causing the wooden floorboards to cry out under his strain of his weight, then stood directly in front of him. He observed that the Naruto was not looking up to see him so he sank to one knee in order to reach the boy's height. Placing a finger underneath Naruto's chin, he lifted up the boy's face, allowing their eyes to meet. He gave a slight smile when he observed that Naruto's jaw dropped in utter shock.

“Is that...me?!”
