Anything else than the eye is gone would be a major disappointment for me.

If its a hawk eye like mihawk thats just dumb we dont need another anime where people just transfer eyes so easily etc (naruto)
If its a surge of ardament haki then it will be boring writing and kenpachi rip off...
If its observation haki again it will be bad writinf especially because his speciality is ardament haki, so why would observation be granted to him on some grand level (eye unleashing powers sounds grand esp in one piece)
If its kings haki ....hmm i dont think i would hate that in fact it would tie him with the dark king as portraying first mate connection etc.
But the best bet is to just let him have a ****ed up eye.. tbh let him gain strength on his own. One thing i always appreciated about Op as compared to other anime such as naruto, is that for most part each char has their own tech and even if its learned and not created by that specfic char they at least put thier own style to it (exp sanji his fighting style comes from zeff (old cook guy) however his own twist is diable jambe is his own speciality on top of the style he learned etc).
