Maybe if he had large wind type jutsus like Temari then he could maybe blow it away but he doesn't all he does with his wind is make ash and channel wind through his blades.

Exactly. I give it to Asuma FTW with high difficulty. I would say they are about the same level in skill and no Asuma isn't strong than Kakashi, but Kakashi wouldn't have an easy win....Mist no jutsu can be blown away by his wind jutsu and Asuma has his knives

What Wond jutsu does Asuma have that can blow anything away. Asuma has Wind affinity that does not mean he can make big gusts of wind like Temari.
Naruto has Wind affinity too but he would not be able to blow the mist away.
