Mark and his family were in the middle of dinner, when Mark finally got up the courage to ask the question that was burning under the surface.
"Dad," he said.
"Yeah, Mark," Mark's dad said.
"What's a "Dual Monster?" Mark's dad froze, mid-chew. His mother then turned her head towards Mark's dad slowly, and terrifyingly.
"You mean you haven't told him?" she said coldly.
"I've been getting to it, Tea," Marks dad said. "Son," he said, turning to Mark. "Where have you heard about Dual Monsters?"
"Warren Kaiba had one at school today. He said something about your background and his dad's background, and it had something to do with that card he had."
"What card did he have at school; a Polymerization?"
"A what? No, it was some sort of dragon." Mark's mom and dad both stared at Mark with a surprised expression, as if they both knew what card Warren had.
"What is it?" Mark asked.
"Was it the Blue-Eyes White Dragon?" Marks dad asked.
"Yeah! How did you know?"
"Yugi..." Tea said. "If Kaiba is teaching his kid-"
"I know. I just wish Atem was here; he would've been a better teacher."
"Don't say tha-"
"He taught me most of what I know!"
"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?!?" Mark asked, clearly confused and irritated by it.
"Son, there's something you need to know about me," Yugi said.
"Well obviously!" Mark said, very irritated at this point. "What is it!?" Yugi then stood up from his seat.
"Come with me."

"Do you see this," Yugi said, gesturing to a large glass case enclosing a podium.
"Yeah; I've seen it almost every day of my life. What is it?"
"Well," Yugi said, opening the top of the glass case and reaching inside, "this case holds something very special to me." Yugi placed his hand on the tilted surface of the podium, and slid it forwards, revealing that what was under his fingers wasn't actually a part of the wooden surface. Yugi pulled out the brown, spiraling formation card from the case, and held it in front of Marks face.
"This is a very special card," Yugi said. "It's a Dual Monster card, and it has the same level of meaning to me as, if not more than, the Blue-Eyes has to Seto Kaiba; Warren's father."
"A brown spiral?" Mark asked, more confused than ever.
"No; that's just the back of the card. This is the Dark Magician." Yugi turned the card around, revealing a magician holding out his staff, and keeping his hat on his head as his head was tilted, making him look cooler. In the background was a ring of mysterious symbols.
"Wow..." Mark said, reaching out his hand to feel the card, when Yugi pulled it away from him.
"I'm sorry, Mark," Yugi said, "but when you have your own deck, and your own precious card, you'll understand how I feel about the Dark Magician. And even then, you may never fully understand what this card means to me..."
"Why does it mean so much to you?" Mark asked.
"All in due time, Mark. All in due time..."
"Say, dad?" Mark began.
"Yes Mark?"
"What would you do if someone stole your Dark Magician card?"
Yugi glared down at Mark as if he himself had just stolen the card which remained in Yugi's hands. "If someone were to steal my Dark Magician," Yugi said, "I would have to find him, and then I would either civily defeat him in a dual, or uncivily beat the living daylights out of the thief."
"YUGI!" Tea said, listening to Mark's first lesson in Dual Monsters.
"Tea, you know what the Dark Magician means to me, and what he's done."
"Dad, mom's right; it's just a card." This time, both Yugi and Tea turned on Mark.
"Just a card!?" Yugi said.
"You seriously haven't told him anything, have you!?" Tea said, stepping into the room and hitting Yugi upside the head.
"WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW!?!?" Mark said, for what felt like the hundredth time.
"Mark, the Dark Magician is much more than just a card," Tea said. "It means something to both of us, and Tristan, and Joey, and even Seto, at times."
"Joey..." Yugi said. "I haven't spoken to him in years... Wonder how old Wheeler's doing."
"Wheeler?" Mark said.
"Yeah, ol' Joey Wheeler. Why, does he have a son your age?"
"I think so. So, Seto Kaiba has about the same level of attatchment to his Blue-Eyes as you have to Dark Magician?"
"About, why?'
"Well, JJ Wheeler, my best friend, sort of...."
"Mark," Tea said. "Sort of what?"
"He stole the card from Warren." Without speaking, Yugi went back to the podium, and lifted the tilted surface, taking out the deck and dual disk he had used against Atem in their final dual.
"You know where he lives, right Mark?"
"JJ? Yeah."
"Good; let's go."

"Time Wizard, ATTACK!" Joey yelled, swipping his hand towards Kaiba's empty field. Time Wizard then jumped forwards to hit Kaiba over the head with it's staff. Kaiba's lifepoints appeared on a score, and dropped form 2800 to 2300.
"HA!" Joey thought. "That face-down was just a bluff! Good try, Kaiba, but you'll have to get up pretty early to fool me..."
"Now, Thousand Dragon, Infernal Flame Breath!" The old dragon sucked in a large ammount of air, and spat a fireball at Kaiba, who raised a hand, his palm parallel to the ground.
"I'll activate my trap; !" The face-down hollogram flipped upwards, and revealed a purple-outlined card of a man made of mirrors. A light then appeared at the bottom of the card, and made it's way to the top of the card, changing it into the Energy Drain magic card Joey used earlier.
"Ah, CRAP!" Joey said. A score appeared next to the flying fireball, reading 2400, and dropping down to zero as Kaiba drew a card. The flames passed right through him, his score of lifepoints remaining at 2300.
"Was that it?" Kaiba asked, unphased from his near-loss. "Well, then, I believe it's my turn..." Kaiba picked up a card, and a smug grin appeared on his face.
"Joey," Kaiba said, "I'm glad you brought your kid here to see this; he needs to know what a loser his father is."
"HEY!" JJ said, trying to run to Joey's side when Mai stopped him.
"Stay here, JJ," she said.
"He needs to know what true power is..."
"I don't like the sound of this," Joey said.
"First I'll play, !" Kaiba said, placing two cards into his Dual Disk. He then glared up at Joey. "Twice."
Two blueish-green card appeared on the field, each holding a strange symbol on them. They then glowed, and a wave-like effect rippled over them, replacing the cards with tall, majectic, dragons. Blue-Eyes White Dragons.
Joey checked his graveyard. "CRAP!" he said. "You summoned the one I sent away; that was going to be my job!"
"Well, looks like it's mine now." Kaiba then shifted through the cards in his hand, and drew out another one.
" !"
"WHAT!?" Another card in Kaiba's hand flew into the field, and formed a third Blue-Eyes.
"This will be your end, Wheeler!" Seto cried. The three majestic dragons, floating in a triangle-formation, then swirled into a single, three-headed dragon. "May I reintroduce you to, the !!!" All three heads of the magnificent beast roared in unison, and Joey crossed his arms in front of his face to keep dust from going in his eyes, his coat billowing.
"That's one convincing hologram," he said, as the dragon stopped.
"Blue-Eyes, Neutron Blast!" The three heads each charged up a blue energy in their mouths, a score of 4500 attack points next to the collective heads.
"HA! Your monster doesn't have enough attack points to defeat me!"
"Your Thousand Dragon isn't the only other monster on the field, Joey," Kaiba said, pointing at Time Wizard, it's score of 500 attack points next to it.
"WHAT!?!?" Joey almost screamed. "You're not going to seriously attack hi-" The three heads let loose a triple burst of blue energy, heading straight for the clock-man.
"I activate," Joey said, throwing his hand dramatically over his face-down card, " !" Then, a whack-a-mole game appeared overtop of Time Wizard.
"Let's see if I get lucky," Joey said. The blast of energy cut right through the fairy box, leaving only two holes in-tact.
"Face it, Joey, you're-" Before Kaiba could finish, Time Wizard crawled out from one of the holes, rubbing his head.
"YEAH!" Joey yelled.
"Fine..." Kaiba said. "I'll play ..." Kabia drew two cards, and then grinned smuggly as he looked at them. "Prefect..." he said to himself, more than anyone else.
"What is it?" Joey asked.
"I think I'll end my turn," Set said, "by making you miserable!"
"Wha-"
"First off, I'll use , and I'll sacrifice your Thousand Dragon, and my Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon."
"Wait, you're getting rid of your ultimate card!?!?" Joey said. "You must have something HUGE under your sleeve!"
"Oh, only a little mind game," Kaiba said. "In order to summon... The !" The old and the three-headed dragons both glowed yellow, and then flew into the sky, a great black dragon comming down in their place.
"And that's it for my turn," Kaiba said.
"Fine," Joey said. "If you're gunna play it that way..." Joey quickly drew a card, holding it at arms length, and then held it up to his face to look at it, and his face lit up. "Now it's my turn!" Joey held up the card he had just drew.
"This is awesome!" JJ said, breaking out of his mom's grip to get a better look.
"MONSTER REBORN!" The card in Joey's hand glowed, and then it disappeared in sparkles. A yellow glow then appeared on his side of the field.
"Yes, Joey," Kaiba said. "Summon my Ultimate Dragon; desolate your favorite card, do whatever it takes to get it back! Learn what true power feels like, none of this 'heart of the cards' crap!"
"Hmp," Joey said. "You obviously know nothing about me, Kaiba. You decided to play my favorite card, and so I'll sink down only to that level to beat you! I summon, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon!" The glow shattered into the majestic blue dragon, and the two opposite dragons faced each other, their attack scores floating by each of their heads.
"Go ahead, Joey," Kaiba said. "Destroy the Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Or can't you do it? You can't can you? For some reason, this card means so much to you, that you can't bring yourself to destroy it, even though it's an inanimate object! You're a chicken, a coward, a-"
"That's enough, Kaiba!" came a rough voice from the distance. Seto looked around, startled, and then calmed down when he saw Yugi.
"Oh, it's just you. When I head you, I thought it was... You resemble him very much."
"I know, I'm told every day." Yugi then walked up to Joey's house, followed by Mark and Tea.
"Hey-hey; Yugs!!" Joey called. "Long-time no-see, how are ya'?"
"I'm fine, Joey," Yugi said. "But I'm here to help resolve something." Mark walked over to JJ while Yugi was talking.
"Did you know about this?" Mark asked.
"The Dual Monsters? Not till now; you?"
"Nope, and there's a lot of secrets I still need to learn..."
"What do you think you can do?" Kaiba asked. "We're in the middle of a dual, and the winner gets the dragon the loser possesses."
"This is a dual Joey'll never win, and you know it, Kaiba!" Yugi said.
"HEY!" Joey said. "Why not!?!?"
"Because, unlike us, Seto has been practicing, entering tournements, and even teaching his son from the day we all left Egypt to this very day; isn't that right?"
"It is, but Joey already agreed to the conditions of the dual."
"Fine, but I want to dual you when you win, Kaiba-"
"HEY! I'M RIGHT HERE!!" Joey yelled.
"-and win Joey's Red-Eyes back."
"Not if you don't put a card on the line."
"My Summoned Skull, then," Yugi said.
"Yugi, you know the only card in your deck that even slightly interests me, so why don't you just come out and put it on the line already?"
"Fine. If you win, I'll hand over my Dark Magician."
Joey, Tea, Mai, and Mark all gasped at this, Mark knowing only very little about the signifigance of this card, but still understanding how important it was to his father.
"Yugs, you can't do this!" Joey said. "I won't let you; I'll beat the living daylights outta Kaiba, here!"
"I would love to see that," Kaiba said. Then he turned to Yugi. "I accept your offer, and I look forwards to my rematch with the King of Games."
"King of Games?" Mark thought. "Maybe I misheard..."
"Alright, then, Joey," Kaiba said. "Let's hurry this up; I have a real dual to attend to."
