Light is protagonist, but anyways the ending is perfect. Light had good intentions first, to create a new world without crimes, but as time passed by he got obsessed with Death Note and its power, and it's exactly as Nate said in the last episode: ''You confuse yourself with a God, but in reality you're just a serial killer'' and what makes the ending sad is that Light realizes this a little before his death and I love how he thought before dying that how his life would have been if he hadn't picked up the notebook.

That was only the end of season 1... There's gonna be a new season this year.

And I think ALL endings suck... When the anime ends it makes you want to watch more. When I finish watching an anime series I feel proud finishing it but I also feel sad that I need to move onto a new anime and that you realise it's finished..

At the moment, the ending that pissed me off the most was probably Sakamichi no Apollon's. It was an excellent anime overall but the last episode was just terrible beyond belief.

Not only does Sentaro just vanish out of nowhere to never return, but Kaoru suddenly acts INCREDIBLY out of character, thus ruining his chances for a relationship with Ritsuko and utterly destroying the essence of the romance of the story. Then they all go their separate ways and never meet again until they're all adults. What is this ending supposed to do? The romance was probably my favorite part, as it was the most compelling and made for some great character development. Not only did it come to a very unsatisfactory conclusion, but the way it was done was so sudden that all it could do was piss me off.
