I would summon a crow, or a street dog, just like Kakashi in the case of the dog. I actually think that´s what keeps Kakashi´s pack summoning something outstanding when surrounded by giant slugs, huge turtles, thousands of sharks and gigantic ninja toads; it gives day-to day life a special spark. As by being master-adopted by a pack of dogs(judging by the looks of Kakashi´s friends).

About the crow, dunno, I meet crows even where there aren´t supposed to be any crows, and, they are fight useless, just like Gai´s turtle-shield
