NB's been my distraction from my finals for the last week. Final essay is 7000 word dissertation involving Studio Ghibli, so just for fun...

Even though they're the anti-thesis of everything Shounen, i've never heard them been brought up here at all. Let's discuss.

Ponyo is oddly my favourite and think it embodies everything great about his work into the most adorable & lovely film with some of the most beautiful visuals and ideas.

Mononoke is an epic of cinema and one of the greatest things put to film, period. The majesty in this film is something I could unpack for another 7000 words and still love it.

Spirited Away & Kiki might be better movies per se but I just love the creativity and charm of The Cat Returns.

Whilst Kaguya has perhaps the most beautiful animated sequence ever made.

There's nothing worse than finals week, I'm praying for you. :wesobi:

I've only watched Spirited Away, so my pick is obvious. I wasn't aware Studio Ghibli released so many movies, I've got some catching up to do.

I've seen all of Miyazaki's filmography (the essay is an eco-critcism on his works so I have to) but even I haven't seen all twenty.

A must-watch is Princess Mononoke, more adult but a chilling Samurai film.

I even got my Dad liking that film when I went home last, what didn't grab you about it?
Eh, not sure since it's been years since then. It prolly had to do with the fact that at the time I was used to only watching flashy, shonen stuff so the whole thing felt alien. (Also, I remember trying to watch it through hater lenses only because my friend made me watch it so I wanted to piss her off. lol) I really would have to rewatch it to give you a more serious opinion.

The first Studio Ghibli Movie I've watched is the Grave of the Fireflies because a friend recommended it, and I cried buckets of tears!!! T_T I swear I don't want to watch it again! Haha! It really broke my spirit :( one of many war stories ever told.

What I really love is the Spirited Away! The characters and their designs are all unique! Second would be Howl's Moving Castle with symbolisms everywhere. I also loved the background songs, the Merry go around by Joe Hisaishi (which most of the instrumental was composed by him). Also One Summer's Day... so many feels. Actually all of his compostion for Studio Ghibli is awesome. It makes me want to play piano even if I don't know how. lol

I also have seen other movies, 'cause every piece is unique so I want to watch all of them but I still have to catch up on. Not all of it suit my taste tbh hahaha. I would recommend My Neighbor Totoro (which Totoro as most lovable character and huggable too), Kiki's Delivery, Whisper of the Heart (country road... :D ), Princess Mononoke, The Cat Returns, Ponyo on the Cliff. XD
