Got a question for you guys. I'm not much of a music listener so i don't quite use ituns/googleplaymusic often, but i noticed something recently.

I can play listen to any song i want on google play music for free. like stream it i mean. So my thought was "oh, i see, you can listen for free, but to download you have to pay".

Then it let me download it for free...

Whats the point of buying a song if i can download for free?

how does that work?

Well for starters, I don't think that's supposed to work? I'm not entirely sure myself, so I realize I may be of no help to you. Maybe you have some kind of trial on Google Play. Other than that, I think some music can be downloaded free, but just a select few.

Streaming is a network connection so it's lower on the convenience scale, downloading allows transferring to your other devices, and downloading will give you perfect quality instantly no matter what.

I don't think you understand. I know the difference. I'm saying why would I buy the song if I can download without paying

You pay for music quality. Some people actually care for their music to sound good. Others don't care if it has been recorded off of some third party software first and sounds fuzzy and shit. You usually can't get a SQ(Studio Quality) song for free as most third party software can't keep the quality perfect.

The reason you buy music is to support the bands. Big corporation bands don't make much money on the album sales as they do live shows, but indie bands really need the money (even though they are usually the first ones to put their music out for free). Even if you want to steal from big contract bands (i.e., Ke$ha, Maroon Five, Metallica, etc) at least try to support local music and starving artist bands.

I don't think you understand, this is the answer to your question:

1. Quality
2. Convenience
3. Transferring

If you know the difference then you already know why people would pay for the download. I do drum covers, so all 3 of these things are absolutely important. If they aren't important for you, then you're not missing out on much.
