[Discussion] You people are misunderstanding Luffy and Shanks

Why would you think that Shanks would stop Kaido, when he knows Luffy has antagonized Kaido of his own accord. It's Luffy's adventure and Shanks won't get involved - this is the relationship Oda has built between Luffy and most of his stronger allies - Ace being the main one.

And vice versa why would Luffy try to stop Kidd from attacking Shanks, he knows how strong Shanks is and more importantly he wouldn't on principle.

One Piece is all about freedom and Luffy and Shanks both revel in freedom. They aren't about to become paternalistic. (Google if you don't know what it means.)

i think luffy will lose his temper if kid tells him hes going after shanks cause shanks is his friend. it would be the same if some sAID THEY WHERE GOING TO KILL ACE. WORLD GOV luffy goes after them

I agree to an extent but if it really came down to it and either shanks or luffy knew the other was in true danger they would help each other out.
