This is one of the very rare cases, where a story happens to be concluded in the video game media over actual animation, mainly due to the intrusive fillers that have plagued the anime for these past two years, despite the manga concluding back in 2014.

Well, this anime is an adaptation of the manga, just like the games are. There are many examples of animes made much later than the actual manga, with game adaptations of the manga inbetween.

The only rare case would be the games concluding the story before the original source (manga or the anime if its one of the cases where the anime is the original story)...

The anime isn't bad when it's canon time.
They are probably making Naruto vs Sasuke movie quality animation while the anime is in a 40 episode long filler arc.
