I see so many people talking about the game "evolve" and saying "from the makers of left 4 dead" and "wow first left for dead, and now this, they're really stepping up their game" and other bullshit like this.
Lets make one thing clear. Statements like these make it appear as if valve had nothing to do with these games.
I'm well aware of valve's operating process: They often see an idea and hire an entire team to work for them to produce a game. They hired icefrog from dota to make dota 2, they hired the entire team of dev's who made an indie game that portal was based off of, but valve is NOT just putting their name on things.
Valve bought turtlerock studios. They hired their entire team. TOGETHER they made left 4 dead. They used VALVE'S resources, they used VALVE'S ****ing engine. They used valve's facial rendering technology. They used VALVE'S servers. They used staff from valve to design the levels, models, and EVERYTHING in game.
For crying out loud, Turtlerock does not even OWN left 4 dead. If they wanted to make another left 4 dead game, they couldn't call it that. Valve still owns the IP.
When they said they wanted to leave valve, valve still owned the name "turtlerock" and they GAVE IT BACK TO THEM.
They don't have the right to call themselves the "makers of left 4 dead" without including valve. Hell, its practically unethical to call themselves the makers of that game given that they don't even OWN left 4 dead any more.
Its also cute that turtlerock used the fonts and graphics (as in icons etc) used in left 4 dead to further imply that they were the makers.
This is worse than when they named that dbz game "Budokai Tenkaichi" to make people think it was the same people behind the "budokai" frachise (it wasn't btw).
Did turtle rock contribute? Yes. The idea of 4 player coop was their idea. I'd were less than HALF responsible for the game.
Anyway, if you want to talk about evolve, FINE. I like the idea of evolve. The game looks good. It will probably sell well. But don't give turtlerock credit for left 4 dead. Hell, when you start the game, the first words you see were "valve"
