Albeit Hiruzen does seem to have better elemental Ninjutsu and chakra control. Plus better summons.

I don't get this shit though. Why did he send those elemental attacks towards the same elemental attacks as the Buddha was sending?

Lightning towards the earth
Water towards the fire
Fire towards the wind
Wind towards the lightning
and Earth towards the water

He would have overpowered the Buddhas attack due to how the elements correspond with one another when met in battle and had dealt some serious damage. Why did he want to neutralize it, I don't know.
