Jakai scrambled through his room, looking all over for his scrolls. God dammit. Of all the days to have trouble finding my scrolls, today has to be that day! Where are you??? Jakai then began scrummaging through his entire apartment. As he was on his couch, he quickly glanced at the TV cabinet and then realized it would be there. He opened up the cabinet with a smile on his face. He then picked up the scroll inside and put it in his bag along with the rest. Alright, now to get a move on. All of his scrolls were neatly kept in a big backpack. Jakai picked up a file regarding his student he was going to be teaching as he was walking outside.

While walking away from his home, Jakai picked up an apple at a market and began eating as he made his way to the site. With food in his mouth, Jakai spoke. It says here that this fella has been on a hiatus for awhile and trying to get back into things. Jakai then swallowed the piece of apple he was chewing on and smiled. Well alright! This'll be fun.. Jakai then made his way towards the rocky valley and approached his student.

Hey there. Nice to meet you. My name's Jakai Uchiha. I'll be training you today. What's your name?

As Shibi heard a voice, he stood up and opened his eyes, the gourd on his back shifting as he stood.

I'm Shibi Aburame, it's nice to meet you.

Shibi gave a quick and shallow bow before he extended a hand as greeting.

I look forward to learning under your tutelage.

Jakai looked towards his student and gave a wide and sincere grin of happiness Well I look forward to teaching you! Jakai said excitedly as he laughed to himself.

Jakai sat down on the ground and looked towards Shibi. So Shibi, tell me everything you know about Chakra, Earth, and Earth Release. Be as thorough as you can. Talk about weaknesses, strengths, combinations, effects, etc. It's important that you know the mechanics and understanding behind each element before actually trying them out.

Shibi followed suit, putting his arm back to his side, and sat down opposite his senpai.

Thorough? I can be thorough, senpai. Now, where to begin?

I guess a nice place to start would be with Chakra - both because you mentioned it first, and because it's the building block for everything to come. Chakra, in the most simplest of terms, is a form of energy. Within every person there is a physical energy - the strength of the body, in terms of raw physical strength, physical stamina, condition of the body such as the presence or lack of injuries, so on and so forth - and a spiritual energy - the strength of the spirit or mind, in terms of emotional stability, mental intelligence and agility, and general experience. With practice, a shinobi is capable of melding both physical and spiritual energies together to form the power source called Chakra. In order to expand one's chakra pool, one must expand both their physical and spiritual energies in equal amounts: by exercising and undergoing physical stimulants, the physical energy is expanded, and by studying, meditation, and generally gaining experience, the spiritual energy is expanded.

Now, I mentioned that Chakra is a power source, but what does it power? It fuels Ninja Techniques, or Ninjutsu, as well as Illusionary Techniques, or Genjutsu. This energy can be manipulated in two primary fashions, those being Shape Manipulation and Nature Transformation, in order to produce different effects, especially under the Ninjutsu category. By concentrating chakra to one point, a shinobi can then manipulate the shape of the aggregate chakra and form, for example and most famously, the 4th Hokage's Rasengan, which is pure chakra in the form of a sphere, constantly moving and aggravating itself within it's spherical shape. One can also use Nature Transformation to turn their chakra into an element. Now, there are a great many elements, but the basic 5 are Fire, Wind, Lightning, Water, and Earth, which we are learning. Well, which I am learning. Using Nature Transformation can be done alone, which turns chakra into an unfocused mass whatever element is being focused on - this effect is most common for elements like Fire and Wind, which easily exist as shapeless fireballs and gusts of wind - or it can be combined with Shape Manipulation to focus the element into a shape for a specific purpose - for example, making the Earth become a wall or shield to defend oneself.

Now that I've covered Chakra as thoroughly as I think is necessary - and please feel to disagree, I can try to add more if you want - and I've begun to lead into it, let's talk about Earth. Earth, as a word, can be interpreted a few different ways, but the way that is most appropriate for discussion in this setting would be the natural ground beneath our feet. In this manner, "Earth" can refer to any number of a wide variety of rocks and soil compositions. While one could argue that "Sand" could be classified as "Earth", I believe it's broken up too much to be true Earth, even if we aren't talking about the Nature Transformations of either. So, basically, "Earth" in general can be seen as the large natural ground which one stands on, especially when outdoors - this being solid stone, like we're on right now, or possibly a softer soil like what is under the grass of a meadow. Of course, even soil has a harder bedrock upon which it must rest.

And now for Earth Release, oh joy! Earth Release, or Doton, is the manipulation of Earth, as I described earlier, by the use of Chakra, which I also described earlier. Now, this is the literal explanation of the word or phrase, but what does it mean? Well, as I also mentioned earlier, Earth Release is one of the five basic elements, which interact with each other in a sort of "rock-paper-scissors"- balance-of-nature-style. For every one of the five elements, it is strong against one of the other elements, and as such it's also weak to another. It creates a sort of circle, and on this circle Earth Release is found between Lightning and Water. The strong piercing power of Lightning Release punches through the solid stones of Doton, with any mettalic mineral impurities also conducting the Lightning on it's path to further amplify the destruction, which shows Doton's innate weakness to Lightning Release. On the other hand, the Earth naturally absorbs Water Release and the impact it uses as it's primary source of damaging structures like Earth, as well as redirecting its energy in a less hostile manner, showing Doton's innate strength to Water Release.

As for Doton's effects, it is a very versatile element. While clearly the most common use is to create solid structures - shields, walls, weapons, armors, and the like - it can also be used in less direct ways. For one, by removing the "solidity" of the Earth, one can manipulate mud with the use of Doton, which allows for more Water-like techniques, though the mud is much more viscous and opaque. Doton can also be used to generate dust, or even slightly larger shards of rock which can be sent in a barrage towards one's enemy. In terms of combining with other elements, Earth in the most direct usage has limiting factors to pairing up with other elements - the large, bulky stone structures may absorb heat from flame easily, but that doesn't necessarily make that a useful combination, the power of water needed to carry stones like that along with the current is more than likely better used as simple water crashing into the enemy, with the same principle applying for wind, and if one wanted to conduct lightning along the Earth to empower the range of techniques, simple mettalic ninja wires are far more effective - but these two "side uses" lend more towards the art of combination. Mud interacts with one's own water to make the mud travel faster, albeit at the cost of viscosity, or how thick the mud is for trapping the enemy, as well as one's own fire to bake the mud into a solid form, such as for snaring enemies or objects caught within the mud. Dust and stone shards, on the other hand, lends itself to wind to increase the speed of the Doton technique, as well as to water in order to augment the water and cause it to carry a sandpaper-like effect.

Now, anything else I can think of? Hm, just a second. I guess Iwagakure is an entire village known for their use in Doton. In fact, they are so proud of their strength in the use of Doton, that the most powerful Doton technique, the Sandwich Technique, is passed down from generation to generation within the village, and carries the symbol of the village upon the technique itself.

Doton is also used in a variety of Kekkei Genkai. When mixed with the Fire element, it creates the Lava Kekkei Genkai, which is more versatile than turning mud to lava as with the Kekkei Genkai the lava can be controlled and manipulated. When these two elements mix, the intense heat from the flames turns the solid earth into its liquid state, which we call "lava". When combined with the Water element, the Kekkei Genkai Wood Release is created. Though only seen naturally in one shinobi (unnaturally in many), Wood Release is a very versatile element which allows the user to form trees and other plants on solid surfaces. Wood Release is said to work when the water gives life into the earth, and forms a plant. As of now, these are the only two Kekkei Genkai which have been confirmed to contain Doton as one of the elemental components, though there are other releases which have been speculated to have Doton in the mixture. One such example is Crystal Release, where the user may form crystals out of the air and then manipulate crystalline substances. Because Kiba mistook the release for Doton, and Kakashi easily destroyed it with Lightning, it is speculated that this release involves Doton as one of the two elements. A second Kekkei Genkai which has been speculated to contain Doton is the Explosion Release. This speculation comes from the fact that Sasuke was able to render Deidara's explosives useless when he stabbed it with his lightning-infused sword, showing that it is weak to lightning. A third and final speculated Doton-derived Kekkei Genkai is Steel Release, thought to contain Doton because metals are found within the earth, and so having a metallic Kekkei Genkai derived from the Earth Release seems logical. And finally, the Kekkei Tota, a kind of Kekkei Genkai which uses three elements instead of two, Dust Release contains Doton as one of the three "ingredients", the other two being Wind and Fire. Though many people will say that "Sand" is derived from Doton, Sand appears to be more of a Jinchuriki-granted ability, just like Steam and Bubbles, and as such it wouldn't technically stem from any elements, but is a specialty Ninjutsu, like Ink. However, some people may disagree on this opinion, and as some people say that Sand is Doton and Fuuton, I thought I may as well mention it.

Taking a deep breath, Shibi blinked a couple of times as he looked towards his senpai Jakai.

So how was that? Did I miss anything? Would you like to expand upon any part? If I got anything completely wrong, please tell me - it's better to be embarrassed and learn than to go through life and learn I was wrong the hard way.

As his student began speaking, Jakai casually listened as he sat. He then brought his bag and put it on his lap, looking through it for scrolls, still while his student was speaking. By the time his student was beginning to speak about Earth, Jakai looked to him and thought to himself. Man, this guy really knows how to talk. He's got a lot of info. Jakai then took out the scrolls his was pillaging for and placed them on the ground. Jakai then continued listening to his student, and continued listening, and continued, and continued. By the time he was done, Jakai's eyes were open wide with surprise.

Shibi, I am both surprised and impressed. I did have these scrolls that you could read through to get a better understanding, but you know a great deal. I still recommend reading these over briefly. Jakai said as he pointed to each of the scrolls in front of him. One was labeled "Chakra | チャクラ" and the other was labeled "Earth Release | 土遁". Within the contents of the scroll were a thorough description of each. "Give it a quick read and lemme know if there's any sort of questions you have. We'll begin after.

Chakra | チャクラ
Overview

Chakra is the fundamental form of energy that all individuals possess which allow them to perform supernatural feats. Overtime, it has grown to become a necessary component of living. If one were to run out of chakra, they would subsequently lose their life. Chakra is unique to the individual, with each person known to have their own "color" of chakra. Sensors or Dojutsu users are able to see this "color" and recognize specific traits, such as the clan of the person. Chakra moves through humans in similar manner to other biological systems, with it's own network known as the "Chakra Pathway System". This network has chakra move through it, passing through Tenkentsu, or nodes where chakra can be released from. Shinobi have learned to release chakra outside of their bodies this way to perform jutsus.

Chakra is combination of physical and spiritual energies. Physical Energy (身体エネルギー | Shintai Enerugī) is collected from each and every one of the body's cells and can be increased through training, stimulants, and exercise. Spiritual Energy (精神エネルギー | Seishin Enerugī) is derived from the mind's consciousness and can be increased through studying, meditation, and experience. The more powerful each of these energies become, the more powerful chakra that will be created. As such, training both physically and mentally are necessary to improve the quality of chakra produced.

Chakra Control

Besides the quality of chakra, chakra control is another important factor in the overall quality of a technique. With poor chakra control, a shinobi may utilize too much chakra and tire faster or utilize too little chakra and ineffectively perform a technique. Hand seals are often used to manipulate chakra more easily, allowing shinobi to execute their techniques faster and more effectively. Shinobi who are extremely skilled at chakra control often specialise in genjutsu or become medical-nin.

Regarding Ninjutsu specifically, two methods of chakra control are utilized. These methods are Shape Transformation and Nature Transformation. The first involves manipulating the form, movement, and potency of chakra. The second involves manipulating the properties of chakra to mimic an element. Yin-Yang Nature Transformation is unique in that it changes the ratio of spiritual and physical energies within chakra.

Types of Chakra

Several variations of chakra exist. Besides each individual possessing a unique chakra, chakra can be categorized into a specific set of groups.

Raw Chakra
Raw Chakra is the natural chakra one posses and expels from their body. Comparatively, Raw Chakra is weaker than Elemental Chakra, Senjutsu Chakra, and Bijuu Chakra. However, when advanced Shape Transformation is applied to Raw Chakra, certain techniques can stand up to previously mentioned list. Examples of these include Rasegan or the Hyuga's Rotation technique.

Elemental Chakra
Elemental Chakra is the result of applying Nature Transformation to chakra (whether it be Raw, Senjutsu, or Bijuu). There are 5 Basic Elemental Natures — Fire | Wind | Lightning | Earth | Water — and each one possesses it's own characteristics. Elemental Chakra Natures can be combined to create completely new elements, though this ability is limited to KG users. Elemental Chakra is naturally stronger than it's Raw Chakra counterpart.

Senjutsu Chakra
Senjutsu Chakra is the result of adding Natural Energy (自然エネルギー, Shizen Enerugī) within the mix of Physical and Spiritual Energy. Whereas Physical and Spiritual Energy is dependent on the user to increase chakra, Natural Energy is dependent on the nature surrounding the user. When properly added into the mix, it increases the power of the user's chakra tremendously. Summoning Animals seem to posses knowledge of Senjutsu Chakra due to their connection with nature.

Bijuu Chakra
Bijuu Chakra are unique to the Bijuu, or Tailed Beasts. Their chakra is much more dense and powerful. Jinchuurikis are able to utilize the chakra of their Tailed Beast while in any of their respective Tailed Beast modes.
Earth Release | 土遁
Overview

Earth Release is the result of using Nature Transformation within a jutsu to perform various earth-based techniques. Earth is one of the 5 Basic Nature Transformations and it is made by manipulating pre-existing sources of earth or having the user create it from his own being. A unique trait about Earth Release is how it has other forms. Besides the earthen materials it can be composed of (stones, soil, dirt, rocks), Earth Release can produce and utilize mud. Earth Release is capable of increasing the density of things, making earth structures tough as metal or soft as clay, or even increase and decrease the weight of things or people. It is commonly affiliated with the Snake Handseal and slamming one's hands on the ground.

Strengths

Earth Release is strong against Water Release. Earth Release can withstand the force of water, since it is much denser, and the soil and minerals can also take in a decent amount of water as well. In addition to the Basic 5 Natures, Earth is also strong against other techniques. It is strong against Rain, Ice, Dark (Both the Absorption and Release Forms), Scorch, and Steam Release. Earth Release is also powerful against the Bugs utilized by the Aburame Clan.

Weaknesses

Earth Release is weak against Lightning Release. Lightning Release is easily able to pierce through and ruin the structural integrity of Earth Release, causing the earth to crumble. In addition to the Basic 5 Natures, Earth Release is also weak against several advance elements. It is weak against Lava, Wood, Crystal, Storm, Steel, Boil, Blast, Sand, and Dust Release. Earth Release is also weak against the Dead Bone Pulse techniques utilized by the Kaguya Clan.

Combinations

Bloodline Limit
Earth can be combined to form a few different Kekkei Genkai. It can be combined with water to create Wood Release, with Fire to create Lava and Steel Release, with Lightning to create Blast Release, and with Wind and Fire to create Dust Release. It is believed that Earth is used to create Crystal Release.

Advanced Applications
None Available

Interaction with Basic 5
Fire - Fire can melt down earth to create Lava, and other molten earthen structures.
Wind - Wind can assist in sending earth and dust towards a target. It also can assist in breaking down the earth.
Lightning - Lightning can be channeled through earth and other mediums.
Water - Water can act as a system to let earth travel and flow through like a river.

Taking the scrolls, Shibi began to read and almost immediately looked disappointed. As he finished the second scroll on Doton, he closed them up and extended his arm to hand them back to his senpai.

I can't believe I missed an entire portion of my Chakra explanation! How it's connected to your life and how it circulates through your body... I can't believe I forgot! Stupid. Also, there's a portion in the Earth Release scroll that seems off... It starts with "Earth Release is the result of using Nature Transformation within a jutsu to perform various fire-based techniques. Fire is one of the 5 Basic Nature Transformations...", and after that it's fine. Perhaps you'd like to take some time to edit it while I'm trying to grasp the next concept you give me - either another exercise like this, or a technique.

Jakai took back the scroll as Shibi handed them. After being told that the scroll had a mistake on it, Jakai quickly looked over it and noticed it. "Why thank you Shibi. It's good to know that you are paying attention." Jakai then quickly took out his an ink pad and wrote over the mistake, fixing it for future use.

Giving a pleasant smile, Jakai took out an additional scroll and handed it to Shibi. "Alright Shibi, this is the first set of techniques for Earth Release. These techniques are pretty generic and simple, so I'm not going to ask much from these. Here's what I want you to do now though. I want you to use the generic Earth Release Technique on the target I'll set up. It is the most basic Earth Release technique, so it's the place to start. After performing it on the target, you're going to tell me any strengths and weaknesses to it. And tell me how you like the technique in general.

D-Rank Earth Release
(Doton no Jutsu) — Earth Release Technique
Type: Offensive/Defensive
Rank: D
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Descripton: Creates small pillars of earth, small tools, and small shields of earth.

(Doton: Shinju Zanshu no Jutsu) — Earth Release: Double Suicide Decapitation Technique
Type: Supplementary
Rank: D
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user, emerging from the ground below the target area, pulls down the opponent so that only their head is above ground. Unable to move, the opponent can easily be decapitated or tortured.

Note: User must already be underground through the use of (Doton: Moguragakure no Jutsu) — Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique

(Doton: Gansetsukon) — Earth Release: Rock Section Cane
Type: Supplementary/Offensive
Rank: D
Range: Short (Mid on Throw)
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: This technique allows the user to take a small chunk of rock and turn it into the shape of a staff. The user can then use it as a melee weapon or throw it with pinpoint accuracy at their opponent. A variation of this technique allows the user to create several staffs and launch them at the target, but with less accuracy.

(Doton: Iwa Rendan) — Earth Release: Rock Barrage
Type: Offensive
Rank: D
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: The user will concentrate their chakra into their arm and then release their chakra creating a ring of rocks that are then flung at the opponent.
Jakai then took out a scroll and placed it on the ground. He opened it up and then proceeded to slam his hand on the seal placed inside. A puff of smoke would appear and when it went away, there were several practice dummies that were scattered across the field.

You must be registered for see images

Jakai then gestured to Shibi, signaling him to proceed with the first technique. Jakai then activated his Sharingan to make sure Shibi was performing the technique correctly.

(Doujutsu: Sharingan) — Eye Technique: Copy Wheel Eye (Passively Active)
Type: Supplementary
Rank: A
Range: Short - Long
Chakra: 30 (-10 per turn to keep active)
Damage: N/A
Description: One of the Three Great Dōjutsu (San Daidōjutsu), the Sharingan is the kekkei genkai of the Uchiha clan. Unlike the other Dōjutsu, not all members of the Uchiha Clan possess the Sharingan. This great Dōjutsu seems to awaken only on exceptional Uchiha members and only in times of great stress. Once awaken, the pupil turns red and a single tomoe (巴) seal appears around the center pupil. As the user masters and evolves their eyes, the tomoe (巴) seals increase, topping 3 per eye. The main ability of the Sharingan, like any other Dōjutsu, is to enable the user to see the flow of chakra. This ability is further improved as the Sharingan gives color to chakra, enabling the user to differentiate chakras from different people or from different sources. Although the user can see chakra through matter, he cannot see beyond dense matter or in long distances. Coupled with the ability to see chakra, Sharingan users gain acess to an incredible clarity of perception that enables them to read insanely fast movements or minor details, enabling them the ability to foresee in an easier way, traps, incoming attacks, etc. This clarity of perception is so great that a Sharingan user can sometimes start performing a counter to an attack that is still being performed, enabling the counter to be launched only a split a second after the attack. This clarity of perception leaves Sharingan users able to track high speed movement easily as well as to read through handseals. This last ability enables them to learn techniques much faster and sometimes copy them directly from the enemy, as long as the user has the necessary chakra affinities and requirements to perform it. Finally, the Sharingan is often linked to Genjutsu and mind-manipulating illusions, mostly because the user can, mostly through Eye Contact, directly and precisely use his chakra to manipulate the enemy's chakra flow. In return, the users clarity of perception gives him the ability to more easily decipher visual illusions cast upon him and see past them. The Sharingan has a great cost to the user though. The chakra consumption disables its use for long periods of time and, even when the user grows stronger, it's still hard to keep it active for long periods of time.

Note: The user, if he hasn't gained full mastery over his Sharingan, will need to spend a move to activate it, although as long as he has chakra and enough stamina he'll be able to keep it active until the end of the match. If the user is Sannin Rank or above and has gained his 3 Tomoe Sharingan and held it for one month, he becomes able to passively activate it, meaning he'll no longer spend a move of his 3 per turn.
Note: To avoid direct Eye Contact and be able to focus only on the body movement below the chin, the opponent needs to have mastered Taijutsu to possess the necessary skill.
Note: Predicting the nature of a technique or what it exactly is requires the user to either know the technique or that its a cannon technique.
Note: Danzo and Kakashi bios activate the Sharingan by removing the covers in their respective eyes and suffer a +10 chakra consumption per turn penalty
Note: The user is bound by the abilities and limits of the stage of sharingan he possesses, stated in the rules of the KG.

lol, MapleStory training dummies

Nodding towards his senpai as he took the scroll, Shibi began to skim through the contents, focusing particularly on the first, most generic technique. Setting the scroll aside for a moment, Shibi closed his eyes and focused on himself. Slowing his breathing to calm his mind, Shibi relaxed his bodies and felt his two energies burn in his solar plexus, like a fire. With slow, steady breaths, Shibi concentrated on his separate energies and mentally willed them into one, forging chakra at the base of his circulatory system. Then, with the same control with which he created the chakra, Shibi focused it through the chakra pathways down towards his feet, and from his feet into the ground. He sent this chakra away from himself, and towards the line of dummies generously set up by his senpai for him. Cracking his eyes open, Shibi dramatically extended an arm, palm facing towards the sky, and raised his hand.

As he raised his hand, Shibi manipulated his chakra to seep into the earth and become one with the ground, rather than simply use the terrain as a medium to travel through. He also focused the chakra to take a more rigid shape, becoming a rectangular prism set at a forty-five degree angle to the level ground. As his hand moved upwards, Shibi concentrated his chakra, which had melded with the rocky ground to move upwards, pulling the earth with it and causing a rectangular pillar of stone to rise from the ground, pushing its way into the dummy and knocking it over.

Ecstatic about his success, Shibi then decided to try with something more complicated. Visualizing in his mind's eye an ax, Shibi once again forged chakra in his core and sent it into the ground, this time keeping it close by himself. With his eyes closed, Shibi focused on his mental image of the ax as he "felt" his chakra in the ground, forging it to match his image as it, too, became one with the earth. Holding his hand out over the spot his chakra resided in, Shibi raised his palm-facing-downward hand only about an inch, focusing his chakra to raise the structure in his mind from the ground until the handle touched his palm. Shifting his hand and opening his eyes, Shibi gripped the handle completely and finished raising the construct from the earth, holding his brown stone ax in hand. He then ran up to the dummies and cut two down before deciding to leave the rest either for another student or another time.

I think this is a really great technique. I can create almost anything I want with this - defenses, tools, weapons, or basically anything else. I could even make a pillar beneath myself to push me out of the way of an incoming attack. As for weaknesses, it's a fairly weak technique. The objects don't hold up structurally very well, and can probably be contested with their real counterparts. For example, I imagine a stone kunai made with this technique would easily be deflected by a real kunai. It also only makes objects, so it's either up to me to use them correctly, or up to where they're placed for them to be useful.

Using his Sharingan, Jakai looked closely towards Shibi to make sure he was properly utilizing his chakra. With great clarity, Jakai saw how his student had performed the technique flawlessly both times. "Excellent! Simply amazing. You're solid!" Jakai then pondered for a moment to himself after listening to what he just said. "Haha! Good pun." Jakai smiled happily as he took back the scroll. He then crossed out the Earth Release Technique from the list.

"Alright, I want you to move on with the remaining techs. You can perform them, analyze them, like stating advantages or disadvantages and how you'd use the technique, or you can do both. Just make sure you cover each technique. If you have any questions, lemme know. Obviously for the Earth Release: Double Suicide Decapitation Technique, you'll need to explain it, since you aren't capable of performing it yet. So we'll get back to that one later." Jakai then nodded his heads towards the dummies, signaling Shibi to begin whenever.

This is a pretty cool technique. It's strong in that you can completely immobilize someone and make it easy to hit them. But it's not so great because you need a lot of set-up, like getting underground and getting close to your opponent. Also, I'm not really sure how Hiding Like a Mole works, but you'd probably have to know where your opponent is and hope he doesn't move away in order to hit him with this technique. Personally, I probably wouldn't use this technique... No room for creativity. But if I were to use it, I would have to use it generically - be underground with the Mole technique, hopefully get under my opponent, and maybe get a basic ninja tool into their ankle as I pull them down so they have something to draw their attention away from reacting to the technique while they're stuck in the ground.

Doton: Gansetsukon

Bending down and picking up a rock, Shibi stood back up to his full height as he began to build up chakra in his solar plexus once more. Focusing his chakra through his arm and out the tenketsu on his hand into the rock, Shibi focused his Nature Transformation towards Doton and made his chakra become one with the potential energy stored in the stone, imbuing it with his power so that he might have control over it. Shibi then imagined a staff, and had his chakra stretch out to form the image he had in mind. As his chakra stretched, it took on a solid form with similar properties to the stone which he held, making it appear as though the rock itself was growing into a long staff as tall as he was. With the staff fully-formed, Shibi began to twirl it between his fingers as he looked towards his senpai.

This is a pretty interesting technique. It lets you grow a small rock into a large staff, which is nice and unique from the first technique I learned. But in the end, it's just a weapon, and it's effectiveness is dependent on the skill of the user, not the power of the technique. It also requires that I'm able to get a rock, rather than manipulate the large stone "plate", for lack of better word, which I stand on. Just a question about the throwing portion, senpai. Do I have to hold the staff, wind up, and then throw like a javelin in order to propel it? Or does this technique give me a wide enough control over the staff that I can use my chakra to push it up against gravity and cause them to float? Otherwise, I guess I understand why the multiple version is so inaccurate - I have to either hold multiple in one hand and throw them at once, or, at minimum, I have to hold one in each hand and throw at the same time, which would also quite reduce accuracy. As for how I would use this, if I can't levitate them I'd probably hold the staff close to one end and use it to outrange fists or swords, trying to make quick strikes around my opponent before I'd combine it with the first technique to push myself further away from my opponent before throwing it to strike in an opportune location. Either the temple, floating ribs, base of the neck, or maybe kneecap, depending on my angle relative to my opponent and what they seemed to be able to defend best/worst in my close-range combat.

Shibi then looked up towards one of the training dummies and pulled back his right arm, holding the staff. He then pushed off of the ground with his right foot, landing on his left as he twisted his body and swung his arm in a javelin-throwing motion. As the staff flew, it struck the edge of the inner black circle and the red on the training dummy's target, and Shibi pursed his lips in disappointment.

May need more practice on that.

Doton: Iwa Rendan

Smiling as he read the technique, Shibi set the scroll down and looked at his right hand as he built up his chakra. Flowing the chakra through the "chakra veins" in his right arm, Shibi built up his chakra there for a moment, focusing on his Nature Transformation to create Doton chakra. After a second or two, Shibi released the chakra from his arm into the air around his arm, collecting the floating chakra into several points around his arm, the Doton chakra collecting to take on physical properties and become stones which floated and orbited around his forearm. Grinning from ear-to-ear as he looked at the orbiting stones, Shibi quickly extended his arm as he looked up at the dummies, pointing his palm towards one of them as his arm became fully extended. As Shibi's arm straightened out completely, he focused the chakra within the floating stones to push forwards, pulling the rocks with it and launching all of them in a spiraling motion from their previous momentum towards the dummy, pushing it over and leaving it a little more beat-up than when it was summoned, though still mostly intact.

I really like this technique. It lets you create rocks from nowhere and then throw them at your opponent, which means if you're mid, either from jumping or being hit up, you could still surprise your opponent with a barrage of solid rocks. The downside is that the rocks (probably) aren't very big, considering the rank of this technique, and they don't move extremely fast, so it's easy to react to the technique and to overcome it. Personally I'd probably use this in the middle of some Taijutsu hand-to-hand combat situation, so that my opponent has not only a punch, but a barrage of rocks to deal with.

"Great job Shibi! Regarding your question, the Earth Release: Rock Section Cane technique does not allow you to control the staff and manipulate it through levitation or other sorts. It basically only makes the a standard staff made from a piece of earth. It acts similar to any other regular weapon. So it's just nice in that it can produce a weapon if you don't have it. I like your performances and explanations on the other techs, so keep up the work like that.

Jakai then crossed out two techniques from the D-Rank List, leaving behind the Earth Release: Double Suicide Decapitation Technique. He then proceeded to reveal the C-Rank List.

D-Rank Earth Release
(Doton no Jutsu) — Earth Release Technique Type: Offensive/Defensive Rank: D Range: Short - Mid Chakra Cost: 10 Damage Points: 20 Descripton: Creates small pillars of earth, small tools, and small shields of earth.

(Doton: Ganban Kyu) — Earth Release: Bedrock Coffin
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Mid - Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: After performing the Rat hand seal, the user will control multiple sections of rock and move them around their opponent. The user then forms two gigantic sections that crush the opponent.

(Doton: Moguragakure no Jutsu) — Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique
Type: Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user changes earth into fine sand by channeling chakra into it, allowing the user to dig through it like a mole. While underground one can sense what is happening on the surface and use the information to launch a surprise attack on the enemy. One can also hide deep in the ground, escaping to a depth where the enemy cant reach. It also appears that after digging, the ground can be returned to its original state, leaving no trace of where the user entered the earth. While inside the earth, the user cannot make handseals and can only use Earth techniques below C-Rank. If he tries to do a higher ranked technique, he'll disrupt the Hiding Like a Mole Technique and be left crushed.

(Doton: Ganchūsō) — Earth Release: Stone Spikes

Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: This technique lets the user create a few rock pillars that will protrude from the ground to skew the target. The rock pillars will even pass through obstacles to reach their target if these are less dense. The pillars/spikes can be done in any earthen surface, including other earth techniques of the user.

(Doton: Yochi no Douyou) — Earth Release: World Shaking
Type: Offensive
Rank: C

(Doton: Mogura Tataki no Jutsu) — Earth Release: Whac-A-Mole Technqiue
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The user will use the Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique to move around the battlefield, in which the user will pop up in front of their target before whacking them with a stick. This technique can be used to attack multiple targets. (The user can substitute the stick for a weapon to apply different method of attack)

Note: Can only be used by Kisame.

(Doton: Iwa Yado Kuzushi) — Earth Release: Stone Lodging Destruction
Type: Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short - Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A (Up to 60)
Descripton: The user will do one hand seal and cause nearby earth structures (either natural occurring ones on the field (such as cave ceilings, cliffs, etc), man made (buildings, etc) or jutsu made (up to C-Rank active structures)) to collapse and fall. This technique allows the ninja to control nearby stone and rock and dislodge any vulnerable or sensitive spots, causing the structure to collapse. This can be especially useful if in a cave or a stone lodging. The technique can loosen the rocks and cause them to come raining down on whomever is trapped inside. The damage depends on the size of the cavern or rock lodging above or nearby the target and not on the amount of chakra used which doesn't need to be high. A large cave with a thick ceiling can easily do the physical damage equivalent to an A-Rank technique but due to the damage not being focused or chakra fueled, its also easily defendable.

(Doton: Doryudan) — Earth Release: Earth Dragon Bullet
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short - Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: When used with Earth Release: Earth Flow River, the user will then perform the Ram → Horse → Dragon and can create a dragon-like head that fires concentrated mud bullets at an opponent. This can also be combined with a fire jutsu to shoot lava toward an opponent. The dragon can be created from other mud techniques as along as a mud source is available.

(Doton: Doryū Taiga) — Earth Release: Earth Flow River
Type: Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: After forming the needed hand seal (Tiger), the user transforms the ground underneath their opponent into a river of mud that throws them off balance and carries them away from the user. The mud created by this technique can also be used as a medium for the Earth Release: Earth Dragon Bullet technique.

(Doton: Ganchūrō no Jutsu) — Earth Release: Rock Pillar Prison Technique
Type: Defensive/Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: After performing the required hand seals, Rat → Horse → Dog → Snake, the user then creates a large amount of rock pillars to rise from under ground. They can then be controlled to surround their opponent and create a bamboo-like prison of rock.

(Doton: Doroku Gaeshi) — Earth Release: Earth Shore Return
Type: Defensive
Rank: C
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: After striking the ground with their hands, the user manipulates the ground in front of him to form a slab that tilts upwards, up to 90º, creating a wall of earth that can defend from incoming frontal attacks. In addition, the user can also create 2 slabs that will rise and tilt to the sides in front of him, as if "opening up" the ground. This can be done to create a clear path if anything hazardous is above the ground in that specific area.

(Doton: Doro Hōshi) — Earth Release: Mud Spore
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short - Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: This technique lets the user summon a river of mud infront of them by lifting one of their hands in the air. This technique can have water added to it to speed up the flow and increase its power.

(Doton: Dochū Eigyo no Jutsu) — Earth Release: Underground Projection Fish Technique
Type: Defensive/Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short - Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Using this jutsu, a person can hide underground until they're ready to attack an opponent by merging with the ground itself. By utilizing earth-chakra, the person can stealthily emerge from the ground without disrupting the ground around him. The disadvantage with this technique is that merging with the ground is rather slow and while perfomring the technique, the user is vulnerable to high ranked Earth techniques. The user isn't hidden from doujutsu or sensory ninjas and cannot travel beyond the 3 meter deep mark. Moving around in the ground is slow and the user cannot sense very well what is happening above.

(Doton: Doryūkatsu) — Earth Release: Earth Flow Divide
Type: Supplementary
Rank: C - A
Range: Short - Long
Chakra Cost: 15-30
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user will first perform the required hand seals, Rabbit → Boar → Rat → Horse → Tiger → Snake, and, slamming the hands on the ground, the user can, by flowing concentrated chakra into the Dragon Veins flowing underground, tear the earth apart, creating large chasms by raising the earth in two oposite sides in the desired location and then splitting that piece of earth through the center. The length, width, direction, and curve of the chasm are all up to the user. Manipulating the Dragon Veins requires fine chakra control, but if one has such skill, they can use this technique to divide the space between the enemy and their own team in two, destroy enemy camps or defences, and even to attack.

Note: This does not split the earth appart directly to cause opponents to fall in the fissure.

(Doton: Tsuchi Douyou no Hira) — Earth Release: Earth Shaking Palm
Type: Supplementary/Offensive/Defensive
Rank: C
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: After performing snake hand seal, the user slams their hand on the ground. The result is that the ground becomes heavily turned up with chunks of rubble popping out of the ground. This technique is used as a means to distract opponents to either create an escape or follow through with a surprise attack although it can also do some damage or be udes to destroy enemy earth techniques of equal rank and bellow.

(Doton: Kengan no Jutsu) — Earth Release: Fist Rock Technique
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: After performing the Snake → Seal of Confrontation and then encasing their arm in rock, the user can deal a powerful hardened punch against an opponent while being protected from direct contact with their target. If necessary, the weight of the rock can be increased to further increase the punch's destructive power through the Earth Release: Added Weight Technique or the Earth Release: Super Added Weight Technique.

(Doton: Ton'neru Chika no Jutsu) — Earth Release: Tunneling Technique
Type: Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short - Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user, after performing the required hand seals, Ram → Dog → Rat → Bird, is able to create a wide tunnel in the ground, this cannot travel through rock though or anything with a high density. The large tunnel that is created allows the user to transport others without detection.

Note: The initial entry of the technique is short range.

(Doton: Dōka Iwa Fubuki) — Earth Release: Assimilated Rock Blizzard
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: After performing the Assimilate All Creation Technique to fuse with an object, the user controls the rocks that make up their "body" and shoot the rocks at the target.

Note: Must use Assimilate All Creation Technique beforehand.

(Doton: Retsudo Tenshin) — Earth Release: Violent Heavenly Earth Needle
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Point: 30
Description: The user, after using Earth Release: Earth Flow Wave, will perform the snake hand seal and then create a large needle out of it to impale the opponent.

Note: Must use Earth Release: Earth Flow Wave before hand

(Doton: Dāchiganshō) — Earth Release: Ground Bedrock
Type: Offensive/Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: After forming the necessary seal, Snake, the user creates two walls of earth and traps their target in between them, crushing them.

(Doton: Hokoriheki no Jutsu) — Earth Release: Dust Wall Technique
Type: Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user will manipulate their chakra releasing it into the ground and with a wave of their arm or through the application of a weapon and will cause a small wall of dust particles and sand to rise up from the ground and thrusting forwards. This technique creates a simple dust screen that will fade away after 3 turns.

(Doton: Rokkuhanmā) — Earth Release: Rock Hammer
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The user manipulates their chakra and creates a huge rock from the ground that will rise up, hammering the opponent by slamming it down from above them.

(Doton: Iwa Dangan) — Earth Release: Rock Bullet
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short - Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The user, manipulating their chakra, will point their palm or fist at the opponent, creating a large rock on it which he then sends at the opponent. Alternatively, the user can "spit" the rock. In this case he will spit a large globule of mud which hardens mid way towards the opponent into a large rock.

(Doton: Jōshō Iwa) — Earth Release: Rising Rocks
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The user claps their hands together and then unleashes two huge rocks from the ground on either side of the enemy to send the opponent flying backwards.

(Doton: Gizagiza no Iwajin) — Earth Release: Jagged Rock Formation
Type: Offensive/Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The user will manipulate their chakra and stomps the ground. By doing so, he causes small fractures to rip through the ground, which will then force fragments of earth and rock to rise up from the ground like protruding rock formations to then deal blunt force damage to the opponent and can raise them up into the air.
"Alright, so this is the C-Rank list for Earth Release. For the remainder of your training, I'm going to give a general description of the techniques, and I'll have you do your best to perform and explain them. Be sure to include advantages, disadvantages, possible counters, how you'd use the techniques, and/or your personal view of the technique. At least discuss 3 out of 5 of those categories in each of your explanations."

Jakai then began to open the scroll to read off the first few techniques. "Alright, so we're gonna start off with the Earth Release: Bedrock Coffin and Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique technique. And after that, I also want you to try out the Earth Release: Double Suicide Decapitation Technique we discussed a moment ago." Jakai then proceeded to explain the techniques.

"For the first technique, you need to start by performing the Rat handseal as you focus your chakra into the earth surrounding your target. You should then be able to create two stones of earth around them that move around and crush the opponent. Offensively, you can cause the opponent to defend their sides while you attack from the front or back. Go ahead and try it on the dummies I set up."

"For the next, you're going to focus earth chakra all around your body. You'll then be able to dig through the earth by turning it into a fine sand. This should allow you to move through the earth quite rapidly and pop back up above the ground. Interestingly enough, when rising from the ground, the user can seemingly restore the hole from which they exited, leaving no trace of where one exited. Just because the user can though, doesn't mean they need to. Also, as you're in the ground, you should be able to have a small degree of target locations, but that's it. The important thing that I want to make sure you understand is that you are not merging with the earth, you're digging through it."

"After you get the hang of that, go ahead and perform the Earth Release: Double Suicide Decapitation Technique" we discussed earlier on a target.
