Minatos yellow flash is a sort of dimensional transportion jutsu meanin he has to travel through some worm hole 'thingy'... Just enough time Gai would need to be quicker, but yet again kakashi was stuned mistaking bijuu mode narutos speed for his father which could mean the suprise in kakashi meant gai isnt as quick. Also Gai relying on Naruto's identical speed to Minato for assistance against the edo tensei tailed beasts.. Well then , the power of youth just isnt cut out for it. Sad really
