No it is a real thing, it is a spiritual weapon. Though Itachi chose to use it with his Susanoo he could have also used it himself. Same with the Totsuka sword.

Unless later chapters prove otherwise, yaata is an actual item, not a manifestation of chakra so it will not be absorbed.
