How's it wrong? It's a shield. It has a shape for a reason. If it protected you from all sides, then it would just be a sphere around the user.

If it could protect you from all sides, then how come Itachi got hit by Kabuto's moves?


Never once in the manga did it show or state that it could block from all angles.

The only thing that it ever said was that it could change properties; as in changing its attributes so it could have the same element of the attack in order to withstand it.

Obviously it will block anything that comes in contact with it. As long as an attack doesn't go around/phase through the yata mirror (with enough speed it should be possible) and actually comes in contact with the mirror, it should be negated.

But it can't block the activation of the 8 gates if that's what your getting at... It can't block things that don't touch it.
