I never understood yaoi. I am definitely not a fan of it. I am also not against it since it is about fictional characters, but I have questions for yaoi fans.

1. Why do you like it?

2. What is your favorite yaoi(just out of curiosity;))?

3. Is this like a homosexual thing or do some straight people like it also?

This thread was not made to offend anyone. I am only curious. Thanks for legitimate answers.

Are you kidding? I see people proclaiming it all the time on fanfiction and deviantart. It's not really "coming out of the closet," especially over the internet where it's anonymous.

By the way, if you don't get any answers here, look for the yaoi fans on those sites. They're all over the place and probably wouldn't be shy to answering these questions.

What? the internet is anonymous, why would they stay hidden?

Yaoi is for girls, yuri is for guys (that's what it was intended for originally at least). Therefore I'm a personal fan of yuri. I really don't understand the attraction of yaoi, but then again, I'm not a girl. xd

Nudity. .-.

U_U Just report it, don't quote it...you'll get a warning or even an infraction for just quoting it. Me, Shisha's my man, so I'm not about to rat him out. xd

Dam you got mad pretty quick.

I would think you had access to my webcam if you were actually right. Of course I'm not mad...

Thanks for the info, + rep for being one of the only people who actually answered anything.

No problem, I like to stay on topic anyway. Yaoi is, of course, male on male. Yuri is female on female.

Booty. ._.

Dude...you could seriously get busted for it though...U_U It might be best if you removed it and the person who quoted you did so as well, that way you might avoid an infraction. ;)

I like yuri = Girl x Girl. I find it to be adorable.
I tried reading yaoi but didn't find it appealing, even so I respect the LGBT in real life.

P.s I know straight girls who like yuri, I have a friend who says he doesn't mind having yaoi or yuri in a story as long as the story is good and I agree with him, I would watch an anime even if it had yaoi if the story-line was well developed. Still, I only read yuri or shounen (animes like naruto)

Must.... De-Rail... Yoai thread...

I used to like yaoi and shounen-ai when I was younger. But as of now I'm not really all that into it.

I'm a yaoi fan :)

The reason why I like it ... It's just more interesting to read than straight stories. Plus most yaoi mangas are very pleasing to the eye because they make the boys really beautiful ^^
If guys can have yuri (which by the way is read and written by girls as well) then why can't girls have yaoi?

And you don't have to be lesbian, gay or at the very least bi to read it. I know some girls who like to read it and yet are completely straight. I'm a girl but I don't know what sexuality I have *shrugs*

It was originally intended for only gay boys until the industry noticed that a lot of girls took a liking to the genre as well. Nowadays most yaoi is published with the girls as targeted audience.

As for which kind of yaoi I like ... Do you mean series or genres within it? As for series, Junjou Romantica stays a classic one together with Gravitation though the mini series Yellow, La Esperança, Only the ring finger knows and Takumi-kun are amongst my favourites as well.
Most yaoi mangas are oneshots or only have two parts so it's too long to name all of my favourites LOL

As for the genre: I read practically everything as long as the plot interests me. It can be shounen-ai or real yaoi, as long as the plot is interesting I read everything :)

Hope this was a bit useful for you ^^;

I'm a straight guy who is a fan of some yaoi couples (Note the avatar of Wally and D;ck from DC Comics). I don't read the genre just to read the genre. I just read manga's or FF if they interest me. Basically, I'm a fan of couples who just make sense to me, whether they be yaoi, yuri (Note the sig of Azula/Ty Lee from Avatar), or straight. For example, I'm a major fan of Kimimaro x Jugo in Naruto, a major fan of Azula x Ty Lee from Avatar, and a fan of Death the Kid x Liz in Soul Eater. Those are yaoi, yuri, and straight. I really don't like using those labels though. I honestly just call them all just couples or pairings I like because that what they are.

So, am I a fan of reading it? Only if I like the pairing, fanfiction wise. I don't read yuri or yaoi just to read it. I just sinply don't try to look for it because I like reading stories for stories that appeal to me and if they come up to read, I'll read them. Basically, I read FF on established manga's/comics/etc...on couples I like, whatever genre they be.

Favorite pairings? Wally/D;ck, Kimimaro/Jugo, and Captain America/Ironman, although I like Steve (CA) with Peggy more, although she died and well, things go on. Not many, but I seriously love the first two I named.

Can a straight person like it? Yeah.

Why do I like it? I'm an open minded guy and if two characters make sense to me to be paired up, then they just are in my head.

Closing notes, I'm really open minded with the fandom of anything. Some pairings I'll dislike because I don't like them matched up, but that's not based on sexual orientation. I'm chill if people like different couples involving the same character than I do. Example, I love Justin/Medusa, I don't mind/I like Justin/Giriko, and I'm okay/don't care with say, Justin/Marie or whatever.

Hope all that made sense.

PS: Good answer SasunaruFan13 (Sasunaru, basically the most canon couple in Naruto, besides Asuma and Kurenau xd)

Yaoi is a Japanese popular term for female-oriented fictional media that focus on homoerotic or homoromantic male sexual relationships, usually created by female authors.

Yaoi began in the dōjinshi (fan fiction) markets of Japan in the late 1970s/early 1980s as an outgrowth of shōnen-ai, also known as "Juné" or "tanbi" (which contain platonic relationships between pubescent or pre-pubescent boys), but whereas shōnen-ai were original works, yaoi were parodies of popular shōnen anime and manga. Yaoi came to be used as a generic term for female-oriented manga, anime, da fan fiction works featuring idealized homosexual male relationships.

Most yaoi fans are either teenage girls or young women. The female readership in Thailand is estimated at 80%, and the membership of Yaoi-Con, a yaoi convention in San Francisco, is 85% female. It is usually assumed that all female fans are heterosexual, but in Japan there is a presence of lesbian manga authors and lesbian, bisexual or questioning female readers. Recent online surveys of English-speaking readers of yaoi indicate that 50-60% of female readers self-identify as heterosexual.

Some of the yaoi fictions out there are good but I hate the stupid feminisation of characters in most of them. A lot of times I can distinctly define such characters as the Canon Sue: where the writer self inserts herself as one of the canon male characters in the pairing ( often opposite her favourite character) in her fiction. I would rather read a Mary Sue fiction that see this "slaughtering" of my favourite characters.

I'm not one for yaoi, honestly. I've read a few fics and pieces with yaoi side-pairings and that's been alright, but nothing more. Whenever I give yaoi a read I see characters being massacred: Ichigo turns into a messed up version of ultra-tsundere Taiga from Toradora whenever Grimmjow is near, Naruto turns feminine and gains an incredible emotional depth, etcetera. Also; what's with this Mpreg facination? I can't find good het-fics with a family theme, but whenever I see a yaoi fanfic, there's Mpreg in it.
Like Ira said; most writers screw the chracters up with a twisted and oh-so-inconspicuous self-insertion, or by removing all character flaws (Gary Stue).
And don't get me started on Yuri O_O About 99% of all Yuri is written by teenage boys who has absolutely no experience with lesbianism outside of pornography.

Ehh...

1. It's entertaining. I'm not gonna go too deep into it like some wannabe poetic yaoi justice poster.

2. Naono Bohra Series.

3. Do it? Perhaps you mean read/watch it. It's for anyone that likes it. Your gender or sexuality has nothing to do with it.

I remember reading this Yaoi manga where there was this guys only school that made the students take turn cross dressing. I kinda had my laughs and liked the first chapters, then it got repetitive and boring. o-o
I dunno what this has to do with the thread though.

You sure about that? I don't know what type of yuri you read but most yuri I read has great storylines. Sadly more people prefer yaoi- I personally don't like yaoi fangirls b/c most of them are little girls who think it's just hot yet they turn around and look at yuri and say "eww" :sy:
I don't read yaoi but I also don't bash it b/c it's based on homosexual romance and have nothing against it.

I like yuri and so does Toxic, or so i've heard xd

You heard right xd I'm the biggest yuri fan out there U_U No one messes with my yuri, (the lgbt people) or they die. I got their backs.
And I don't truly 'only' read it for what ppl think, actually do enjoy the stories not just b/c most have really hot yuri couples.
