Yamato serves no further purpose in the story as he was meant to suppress the nine tails. Now that the Kyubbi and Naruto are friends, Yamato is no longer needed. I did like him but it wouldn't be too surprising if he dies or gets captured by Sasuke.

I think Sasuke will start capturing Konoha ninja instead of killing them for information and torture.
