The Sound Four are good at working in tandem.

• Yamato has no counter to Tayuya's sound-orientated genjutsu
• Kidomaru's long-range attacks would put significant pressure on Yamato, could potentially kill him
• the others could assist in the form of various distractions, they also have solid defenses

If Kimimaro was added into the fray, Yamato would surely lose. (Kimimaro's bones >>> Yamato's mokuton)

Maito Gai, alone, would have no trouble defeating Yamato. Hirudora and Asa Kujaku would each be more than enough.
