Yamato probably died. you wanna know why?
During Madara vs Hashirama battle, Madara gained Hashi's DNA. Perhaps Hashi died during First Shinobi World War because Madara gained His DNA probably. That damaged on Hashi's body, so he died.
Kabuto captured Yamato and traded hashirama's DNA to 1,000 Zetsus. So He died like Hashirama did. ( not sure if i am correct.):shrug:

Having DNA collected is simple as having ones blood or other cells. Having your blood collected probably wouldn't cause Hashirama to die in the war.

You realize all someone needs for DNA is a small amount of blood, saliva, possibly even hair(not 100% on hair) so Madara obtaining some of Hashirama's DNA isn't any proof of him having had mortally wounded Hashi in their fight.

I don't know how long Hashirama was alive after his fight with Madara. It could be 3 years or 3 weeks for all I know.

If Yamato is died we would have seen him die, anyone close to Naruto doesn't just die without it being shown, when Pain attacked the villiage we saw all of the shinobi close to Naruto like Iruka and co die, Yamato has played a big part with Naruto so I think Yamato will somehow escape and either go to the battle field or go to the villiage for care (supplying DNA for as long as he has must be hard on the body) and somehow find Orochimaru and co with the four Hokage and Hashirama will go all silly about his woodstyle ninjutsu
