In order to get closer to Nagato , Tobi had to corporate with others, (Hanzo their enemy) so Hanzo deal with Yahiko ,and Hanzo will be safe from akatsuki.

1. Yahiko was stronger than Nagato , and one of the fearsome ninja during 3GW
2. Obito feared him ,probably from his strength
3.nobody killed him during a battle ( he sacrificed himself )
4.Hanzo was cooperating with obito
I believe that He may be the child of prophecy , ( I now its Nar. ) if he would still be alive ...

1.I know by force will be wrong ,, but yahiko was the only one who prevented obito to meet them ... Nagato joined Obito only after yahiko's death ,..
2. hanzo couldn't kill yahiko ..that's obvious

]. Why would Obito engage a dear companion of Nagato's if his intent was to befriend the Uzumaki? Nagato was the clear superior in regards to strength due to the possession of dōjutsu and heritage... However, at that point, Yahiko custody of more haughty leadership ability. Obito only appear to have had fear toward Madara or controversially Itachi. Yahiko hadn't fought in the Daisanji Ninkai Taisen and simply because Yahiko died in a sacrificial manner, does not imply strength.
