So I was thinking about something. Here it is:
Obito says: "I was the one who spurred Yahiko to form Akatsuki". But at this time Obito hadn't even met Madara yet, and yet he talks about Yahiko and the beginning of Akatsuki. So he was obviously talking as Madara, which leads to a few possebilities:
I think it's higly doubtful that Madara would risk going outside of his cave, but the location of the cave isn't far from Amegakure, so them meeting is still a possibility that can't be neglected.
Using Zetsu to start Akatsuki would also be possible, but again how would Zetsu gain influence over Yahiko? I can't really see it, unless he could provide very solid informations on their enemies in a way that would allow Akatsuki to progress.
To be honest I start to believe that Madara knew Orochimaru. If this was the case we could explain how Orochimaru obtained Hashiramas DNA. Madara might not have met with Orochimaru in person, but they might have met through Zetsu, genjutsu or a clone. Madara could have made Oro do some things for him, and in return he gave Hashiramas DNA to him. Oro might not even have known it was actually Uchiha Madara, if he used Zetsu.
The reason I say this is simple. If Madara was truly as weak as appeared in front of Obito, Oro in his prime would just have killed him and taken the Hashirama cells to himself along with Madaras DNA. In turn it might very well be that along with the Hashirama DNA that Madara had, his own DNA was mixed into it as well. Kabuto later realised this, and thus he was able to ressurect Uchiha Madara in his prime - with wood element and rinnengan.
Also Kabuto mentioned Orochimaru to Madara, what meaning would that have if Madara didn't know him? It happens here:
