The point of this thread is to debate about how you view the overall character of Yagami Light. Are you for or against him? Do you view him as a Vilain or as a dogmatic hero?

First, in case you don't know what an anti-hero is, please google it, and/or find it's entry in wikipedia, as the missunderstanding of the term might destroy the debate...

I personally view him as an anti-hero, because he did have certain criteria as to who he killed, and he was aiming for the greater good, not for a personal goal. Also, I think serius crimes should be punnished by the death penalty, to clean up society. The only think I didn't like was how he murdered some inocents, but I can understand that it was for the greater good...

Please leave your vote, and give some explaination about it. ;)

Death note opened my eyes alot because when i watched it which was like 3 years ago i was a naive kid who had very similar ideas to him. But after watching it i changed my mind on the whole killing criminals to make the world a better place.

He started off as a hero, but as things progressed he became exactly what he wanted to get rid off in this world

He was a villain. Killing, and he took pride in the kill. Although I hate the analogy, he was like Hitler, or any other leader in a war. Killing for the greater good, but still, murdering them.
I disagree with his methods, especially as death means they don't suffer for their crimes.

He is an anti-hero and I agree with his ways. It's not like the dude was killing shoplifters and pot smokers he was killing irredeemable hardcore rapists and murderers. I think he was right but he did go a little overboard in killing the good guys.

hmmm, yeah, I guess I should have considering that as an opption in the poll, haha! Yes, it's true that his personality changed a lot...

Simular to Lelouche, his character cannot be easyly categorised as good or evil, he is one of the most perplex characters out there. That's why I find him interesting and worthy of a debate! :)

For the very beginning he maintained his ideals and killed in a justifiable manner. But then he had to start killing good people to hide his own identity. From there he let the Notebook corrupt the shit out of him.

Spoilers if you haven't watched/read DN.

Started out as anti, but along the way lost his humanity. I'm a huge light fan and actually wanted him to succeed, but it didn't turn out that way. Honestly, I really became angry at Light when he tossed Misa aside for Takada, and then tosses Takada aside. How dare he hurt Misa? This is why Matsuda lived Light, he was kind!

I think I'll answer the poll with how he died, that being villain and disagreeing because he went from killing actual bad guys to just people in his way. So, last option.

monstrous evil genocidal maniac who would kill anyone he felt like even if it was his own family or random cops merely in his way.
and you are just as evil as he is to want to "clean up society" by committing the same crimes the criminals were locked up for.
