I guess he planned on taking over madara once he got the yin kyuubi so when it was about to leave obitos body, But through the will of rin obito prevented BZ from detaching itself from obito.

Well, from witnessing the VOTE battle, he figured out Madara's weakness. He took advantage of it and the timing. He could have stabbed him in the back at any moment as:
A) Madara thought he was on his side so he would "ignore" his presence.
B) Madara does not have negative emotion sensing.

Black Zetsu most likely planned on just attacking Madara from behind at some point, like he did. I doubt he would be stupid enough to attack Madara in a battle head on. (It would result in Black Zetsu's defeat after all.)
