Yea it's f*cked up...i'd blame the internet..the strenghtened constant approval looking of women nowadays is partly based on the fact that mediasources are accesible to everyone and are around everywhere and everyone is connected to each other better than never before.

So called "fashion"knowledge advances fast in the internetworld and everyone just tries to be something and it goes over the top..blogs, picturegalleries, social network are full of that constant attention seeking and competition of women. Also men.

Traditional values are fading and people are more independet. Glamour is the word of the day and it's definitely not always pretty as shown in your pics.

Eh, day after day people are becoming more strange, and sadly we can do nothing to stop that. You asked why that happened? Because certainly people have no limits now, they can do whatever they want and there is no politic that can stop them. But what they don't really think, is that not everything that is allowed is right.

As for those women which were full of life before and now are very skinny, that comes only because they think they look good like that. Many women nowadays suffer from different illnesses such as anorexia or bulimia just because they have psychological problems, causing them to hate themselves and thinking that becoming "dead" skinny will make them better.

As for the men, I don't really want to comment. I prefer masculines and there are just a few of them in the XXI century. D:

Women no longer have to abide by the idealistic views that society holds for them. Back then, there were certain norms that women and men alike had to live by in order to get accepted in public. But now, even the most outlandish people will find someone of the same wavelength as them so they don't need to be "normal" anymore. Walking around like a mini version of Snooki may attract certain negative opinions, but they aren't shunned by society. And we live in a world where getting noticed is everything. So the whackier you dress/behave, the more public recognition you get, and that's one of the most sought after things in the world today: recognition.

That said, Audrey Hepburn is my eternal idol, so comparing her to the likes of someone like Snooki... >_> It's like taking the best and the worst of two completely different time periods. Which also brings me to: this happened over the last few decades, not just the last decade (in reference to the thread title; a simple typo, perhaps?).

Different is not allways bad..All around the world people ar being shunned for being different, not to please anyone or because it is popular, bat because they are different. Just remember how many times you have been laughed at and called a nerd or a juvenile by the so called normal people, for liking anime/manga.
