People have a misconception about the title World's Strongest Swordsman. Just because Mihawk can beat a swordsman in sword combat does not make him a guaranteed victory over that person like so many claim. WSS means Mihawk can beat anybody in a sword battle true but that doesn't mean he can beat them overall, if Issho fought Mihawk he would lose in the sword fight of it but his DF may be stronger than Mihawk's sword abilities for example. So just because Mihawk is going against a sword fighter doesn't guarantee him a victory if the sword fighter has alternative fighting methods. Agree or disagree?

Agreed, but in every manga there's always gotta be that one kid that misinterprets direct statements

I've thought about it actually; but then WSS makes no sense given how varied sword fighters there are in OP, something like world's most skilled swordsman, or strongest in a pure sword battle would make more sense.

Question: Does Issho and Shanks even identify themselves as swordsman? Prolly only pure sword fighters do that. I believe he would beat anyone who is just like him(ie fights using only swords), but not everyone, that's my headcanon atm.

What I'm interested in finding out is HOW he earned his title? Was there a particular battle or tournament which lead to it?

That's one way to look at it. Or, it means that of all the people who are swordsmen, Mihawk is the strongest.

The notion that a swordsman only uses his sword or a fight between two swordsmen only involve swords was crushed by Zoro vs Kaku. Zoro left that fight the stronger swordsman, but it wasn't a fight involving only swordplay.

Kaku and Diamante are swordsmen, but both incorporate external powers to enhance swordplay. So no, you don't have to use just a sword to be a swordsman.

I agree with what you are saying. But Mihawk > Fujitora.
I see Mihawk being near equal to Kaido/Akainu (the strongest of their factions) to be honest.

Kaido - strongest pirate

Akainu - strongest marine

Mihawk - strongest warlord

Doffy and croco. is equivalent to mihawk in terms of power.

Honestly i think he is in top5 of this pirate age...
He is a shichibukai without any crew and travels alone through out the op world..
His hype is way up compared to other shichibukais and he is the strongest swordsman.....
Mihawk never feared anyone in OP till now and he used to fight shanks regularly...
Iam not sure but we never saw mihawk taking single injury till now in the series........

lmaoooooo

Get a load of this guy

Wait, what?
We guys didnt even get properly highlighted with mihawks full potential so its fair to assume that Doffy is an equivalently strong. And Doffy is a hell of a guy, he can surely put mihawk to extreme diff.. On Marineford war, croco. put up a fair fight to doffy means he is also on the same level. Just bcoz he was introduced in the anime before any other shichibukai doesn't mean he is weak ass otherwise doffy would have one shotted him much before he even made an appearance in the war, there is a regular pattern in shonen mangas that no matter how strong the main villian is, MC has to defeat him no matter what happens. Thats why crocodile is underrated.
And why this thing is so hard to deal with. You guys have already put mihawk above shanks and WB, indirectly saying strongest character of the anime so if you can agree with this bullshit than doffy, croco, maihwak on same level should not be of any big deal.

Mihawk has better portrayal than Shanks, so that would mean that Doflamingo is >=Shanks. Lmao that Crocodile wank, Croc attacked Doflamingo and Doflamingo casually blocked him with his foot. Not impressive at all for Croc and it definitely doesn't put him on Doflamingo's level.

Mihawk and Shanks are equal bro. We've literally seen just as much Shanks as Mihawk.

Stop hating on Mihawk.

If you don't think their clash at MF was anything significant strength portrayal wise, then why would Doffy have asked Croc to join up with him? The shichibukai are familiar with each other and their powers and he thought Croc was worth talking to. I'm not saying that makes Croc = Doffy but I'd argue it's good evidence to suggest their close in power range(despite pre skip Luffy winning) Yes there is arrogance but Croc doesn't seem like the type to foolishly attack someone and he charged Doffy and WB, that suggests to me Oda either wanted to portray him as stronger than most people perceived him or Oda wanted to portray him as proud beyond reason.

wtf equivalent and equal are the same.
No they aren't. Equality is saying Roger and Whitebeard tied with each other. KingHashirama's post is an example of equivalance.

Equivalence is equality in concept or principle more than equal to in amount or exact same as.

Another example of equivalence is saying Doflamingo is the strongest Noble, Jinbei is the strongest fishman and Enel is the strongest Birkan. Their power isn't equal in amount, but equal in principle, which is what equivalence is.

you can take fuji`s sword out of the equation and consider him like pain but he will still be weaker than mihawk

mihawk has the hype to at " the very least" be equal to shanks who has the hype to be stronger than any admiral (at least not named akainu ) ..... it`s as simple as that

so in order to dehype mihawk you need to either prove that shanks isnt a "pure" swordsman or that shanks is weaker than the admirals
and good luck being able to do any of the two

Read his posts in this thread. He clearly thinks that Mihawk= Doflamingo=Crocodile.
