Definitely read it. In my personal opinion it's actually better than Death Note, but that's for you to determine.
Liar Game's an interesting case in that it's not really a story with a deep, complex plot or glorious character development, and those are typically what I look for in a story. Yet somehow Liar Game is one I'd actually give a 10/10. One might ask why this is the case. The thing about Liar Game is that it's a very psychological series with amazing wit battles and some of the most mindblowing moments in that regard.
Akiyama is probably THE smartest manga character I have ever seen. While the series' quality is subjective, I can say without a doubt that Akiyama is smarter than the Death Note characters, and only by reading the manga can you determine why. As far as the cast goes, Akiyama is probably at the top in terms of sheer intelligence, but he faces interesting adversaries with different skills (ruthless domination, charisma, etc.) and this makes for some very interesting events.
I could definitely go on but that would just delay you from reading a fantastic series, so do enjoy it. You might not be convinced at first but if you stick with it I promise that you'll at least like it a bit if you enjoy the psychological mind battle series at all.
