I probably wouldn't for the same reasons why I don't read comics now. I view comics as the kind of thing that you needed to be exposed to at a young age or that you otherwise would need to really commit your time to make it your hobby. Because a single character can have any number of story arcs, timelines, variations, or even simply issue releases all happening at the same time, I can't simply pick up a comic off the shelf and jump in like I can with a manga for example. Hell even if I just want to read a specific story arc it's just not as simple as finding issue #1 of that particular arc and reading from there, because the issues that most story arcs encompass (that I've looked into at least) even include stand-alone character issues/other story arcs. Plus I've found that most comics are dialogue heavy or at least put equal focus on the writing rather than the art, and since most western comic art styles don't really draw me in like other art styles I'm not left with much to look forward too.

And when it comes to the "reboots", the way I see it is they don't really change much of anything for me. Sure, it may give me a more clearly defined starting point to jump onto to but eventually the same issues will arise with crossovers/stand-alone issues/stories that involve other stories. Plus at the end of the day I just wouldn't ever really feel like I had the same understanding of characters that other die-hard fans would because they actually dedicated themselves to reading 50 years worth of characters and stories.

I find the opposite to be more true. I find it easier to delve into a random issue of a comic than i do with any manga.

Odds are that's where you dive in though. I can say with confidence that most people dove into anime with Sailer Moon, Naruto, One Piece, or DBZ. It'd be pretty discouraging for to devote much time to plenty of DC's stories.

OT: I only really read classics such as Batman Year One, Civil War, Long Halloween, Winter Soldier etc. Superhero comics are a mess of rewrites, reboots, alternate continuities and overall I hate the inconsistent portrayal of characters which changes each time a new writer takes up the mantle. For that reason Manga > American comics

If I was rich and a collector, personalizing a vast special library room for all DC New 52 comics would be a hassle. Besides whether it’s DC or Marvel, who’s able to keep some issues forever in good condition? I prefer to read the comics digitally, and I personally would like to support official releases, but owning them? They’re not like shounen jumps that finish.

Sometimes I look for stories about the characters I like from the BAtman universe then I do my research then buy what I need to buy. It’s not rocket science to know where to start, also, they will always bee a nerd helping you out with it.

Marvel has an app like that. It's like 10 bucks a month to read all the comics in their inventory. DC has an app too but they make you buy each comic individually.

I've never understood people getting put off by having a lot of material to get into, that's the best part is they keep going. You gonna tell me there's not a manga you wish just kept going(HxH)? Would you not read the Game of Thrones books just because there's > 3,000 pages to read?

I jumped in and caught up with Bleach's 600 something chapters to catch it before it finishes, so it's not really the amount of material. It's just realizing I could be spending my time in a better way. Like.. it's hard to explain. A trust issue or smthing. Imagine it's a game. You could be spending your time better than playing a game, but "x" game that'll either rip your wallet or really force you to play mad crazy to even progress really highlights the fact. Lmao, I can't explain it for shit.
