Say there's a bomb set in a major metropolis city, and terrorist out of spite have captured you and given you an option, to shoot yourself in the head where the bomb will deactivate once your dead, or to let yourself live and let the bomb detonate.

Note: your family does not live in this specific city.

If yes, what if instead of millions it was just a few thousand?

True but it's more of a conscience thing, most people would be ridden of guilt for years if they were responsible for millions of death's, perhaps even turn suicidal.
