If someone robs or rapes, they know that if they don't leave any evidence, they will not be prosecuted.

But if family and friends often take revenge at a 100% rate, people would be very scared to commit crimes.

This article mentions that the wild west is often low crime. Here, revenge is nearly always a reaction to a wrong.

Not saying that revenge is right. Detering crime at the cost of morality isn't what I'm advocating. I'm just analyzing an interesting social phenomena and observing opinions on the matter.

I don't think so. The Wild West also had a lot of family feuds due to revenge. It would create an eye for an eye mentality

"Justice" is revenge. Just a nice word for it.

No.

Source: A HISTORY BOOK GO READ ONE. Blood begets blood. revenge just fuels more revenge and often times the people involved who seek revenge are too emotionally connected and they may not see things clearly. Often times cases of revenge were people hearing parts of a story, getting worked up, and killing someone over it to find out later it was made up or inaccurate.

The Gov't should buy 3-4 whole states, turn it back into the old west and let all these gun nuts and revenge seekers roam free 1800's style that way they can get what they want, and I don't have to hear them cry about it anymore(not you specifically OP)

No, because people would then find excuses for "revenge" and just kill people over insignificant things.

You're going down a slippery slope once you start justifying revenge. There's always going to be people who push the line further and further. Revenge being a staple of a society is never a good thing.
