Madara predicted their demise and they turned their back on him.
Then again his spirit kinda provoked the rebellion.

Itachi thought beyond his clan, he wasn't limited to that pride, he saw Hashiramas and Madaras joint dream of a village as a higher priority.

I'm not sure what Madara valued more. He was tricked by Black Zetsu from reading the tablet and gave up on Hashiramas dream for something even bigger. I think ultimately he would not approve of Itachi's actions, in fact he would have probably sided with the Uchiha and obliterated konohagakure.
But then he sort of changed his mind before he died.

Maybe he could have seen something in Itachi he could have respected, but I'm not sure.
