Branch family are protectors of Head family. I don't recall reading anywhere that they cannot be in the military. This guy was talking to her without her honorific and he's in a military attire. Even Neji's father used to use an honorific:

No, if Hanabi was Hinata's age, she would have definitely put up a "better fight" but would have still lost in the end. Neji was renown throughout the village as the genius of the Hyuga clan. Hanabi was indeed better than Hinata at that early age, but it was never stated that she was one of the most talented at that age or would grow up to be a genius.

Except air palm is classified as a Kekkei genkai technique and not a Hiden meaning it's an ability available to every member of Hyuga not only the main branch. Made even more apparent by every Hyuga using it in the 4th world war. If Neji the genius couldn't use it then, Hanabi who was never portrayed as a genius wouldn't.
OT: I doubt it. Neji would have mopped the floor with them both. Neji was leagues above virtually everyone at that stage by virtue of being a genius.

We have no clue if Neji even knew about it tho , and kaiten would be much harder to learn than air-palm as we seen with Hinata , while Hanabi is hard trained by Hiashi so imo its possible she had it.
Do u have any other scans of him talking to her like that? because as u said the branch family were protectors of the main which would make sense for that guy bein a side member.
The anime does class him as from the Main tho so im on the edge with this one.

Sorry, mate. That is the only scan I can think of. There was one more when she appeared before Pein and he called her without the honorific as well. I cannot recall there being any other.
