I doubt it. Any basic elemental ninjutsu are a bad counter for kakashi, as he knows 1000s more than gai ever will, this and the fact that kakashi can counter, and return any jutsu gai would throw at him makes me believe gai should stick to what he knows.

Imo probably not, his Taijutsu is so great because he focuses so diligently on it, and it alone. If he did use Nin(which he can), and Genjutsu(assuming you want to include Genjutsu) his abilities as Taijutsu would possibly weaken distributing his strength amongst the Jutsu. Putting him right at the current level hes at still. Just a guess.

Nope. He spends nearly all of his time in Taijutsu, something he has a clear talent for. If he split up his time that he works on Taijutsu to practice Ninjutsu he wouldn't be advancing as much. He's better off just sticking to what he's good at.
