Or maybe he's telling Natsu this so that he can merge with END and finally be able to kill him (Zeref). I just dont see Natsu defeating this END guy, instead having a mind struggle battle after learning the truth that END is Himself

Natsu having a mind battle with END? He'd better not do that bad comedy routine like in the dragonoid episodes...That was seriously stupid. Funny, but stupid. And at this point in the plot, we don't need that level of stupidity.

Gray was always one of main characters.

He is second most important male characters in the series and probably Deuteragonist.

He was never a fodder.

1. In the first chapters, he was portrayed as stronger than Natsu. Even Lucy noticed this, with him being able to defeat those dark guild members without magic. Natsu on the other hand used magic.
2. After that Natsu got more feats, with lead to assumption that Natsu was stronger, but again Natsu couldn't beat Fukuro, Gray was able to beat him and even stronger form pf him. Simon also noted that they was highly underrating Gray.
3. For sure he was surpassed by Natsu during Tenro arc, but being surpassed by main character don't put latter as fodder. And main character isn't fodder.
4. His feats during GMG and Sun village arc was pretty good.
5. After getting Demon Slaying magic, he surpassed Natsu. Again, Natsu is protogonist, protogonist can't be fodder in shonen manga. He was able to one shot Tempesta, demon that put Laxus into coma.

Oh Nah, lol of course not that kind of mind struggle battle. I mean like the kind between Naruto and the Kyuubi before they became friends. END will enter Natsu's body and try to take over but instead Natsu supresses him and keeps him in check for as long as he can. Although a short battle between Evil Natsu and Gray would be cool

Apart from the galuna island arc and Tartaros arc we never really get much of gray

Okay. I know we all prefer Gray over Natsu, but come on, do people really think he'll be the one to take out END? I find that hilarious. Of course, Natsu will fight END, maybe with others, but he'll be the main focus of it. Gray does qualify as a main character, but not to the point that Mashima will let him take all the glory from Natsu in this arc. If you think Mashima will let that happen, you're either in denial, unreasonable or delusional.

It depends on who is END. If END is Natsu that there is pretty high chances that one who will fight him is Gray, since I don't see who could defeat him, except for Gray (devil slayer).

If END is not Natsu, than I again can see Gray fighting him. END will not be final villain, but Zeref. Gray wouldn't take Natsu's glory if he fight second main antagonist, while Natsu fight main antagonist (Zeref).

Gray would take Natsu's glory only if he fights Zeref.

There are two types in which main characters fights main antagonist, one is for both main characters (protogonist and deuteragonist) to fight main antagonist. Like what happen in Dragon Ball (both Goku and Vegeta fought against Buu) or Naruto (both Naruto and Sasuke fought Kaguya). Other type is that protogonist takes main antagonist, while deuteragonis fights second main antagonist.
