Would Edo Hidan be able to use Jashin ritual effectively?

Whatever happens to the guy using the jashin ritual happens to the guy who is cursed as well. So when Edo Hidan stabs himself, the guy would be in pain, but then when he recovers, his opponent would recover as well, no?

I think it would still work if Hidan went for kill shot from the jump. Like another poster said that shinobi would be dead before any regen came into play.
