Nagato had a pretty shitty childhood, but at least had Konan out of it. Gaara at least had his siblings (not much but something). Sasuke had admiration from others, even though he couldn't care less about that after what happened to him when Itachi killed their parents. Naruto didn't really get all that much until a while in, since everyone was shitting the bed about Kyuubi at the time. Sasuke was hell bemt on revenge, Gaara got full on twisted until his tun in with Naruto, Nagato became seeminlgy desensitized after everything that happened, Naruto was the only one who actually seemed sensitive to it all. I suppose it depends on the reader's perspective. Some may even venture to say Obito or Kakashi or even Neji, but meh. I will go with Nagato. He lost his parents and his best friend, and was a war child. Most others just lost a parent.

Tbh out of the entire series I think sasuke easily had the worst childhood, I understand naruto being hated as a kid sucks for one that's not that unique in life and the series and honestly finding out your family was massacred and people around you were either responsible or did nothing is definitely scarring

Gaara was bund to the psychological trauma that his father caused, but also it's seems like he had weak resistance to shukaku and therefore was bloodlusted since birth. But honestly you should not forget the founders of konoha, hashirama Senju and tobirama who saw children suffer in war and countless clan members get killed. They had a pretty tough childhood.

I don't mean to be presumptuous, but I really think the worst childhood award must be given to children who lived in the Warring States time, a period of harsh war when kids were sacrificed daily: be it Hashirama, Madara, Tobirama or Izuna.

There's too many characters with bad child-hoods so this thread is pointless IMO.

It is true when you think about it, almost every major character comes from a tragic past.

Gaara, Naruto, Haku, Kabuto, Kushina, feudal war kids like Madz/Hashi/Tobez/Itama, Itachi, Nagato, Sasuke, Sasori, Obito, Hinata, Kimimaro... few and far between are guys like Deidara and Hidan who just wanted to f*ck shit up for fun.

Madara, Tobirama, and Hashirama. There was no such thing as childhood in the warring states age they had to become men literally when they were kids. If not them then Yamato for sure because he spent the first 10 years of his life in a test tube.

Gaara's childhood is pretty fcked. Same with alot of kids who grew up during the Ninja Wars.

Haku is up there. His father killed his mother when he found out they had special abilities and then killed his dad. Afterwords he lived on the streets until he was picked up to be the tool of the nutjob Zabuza before dying at a young age.
